The eyes of Sacramento were focused squarely on New York Wednesday, so Kings fans will be forgiven if they overlooked tonight's game again the Houston Rockets. The crowd seemed to lack energy early on, but it's hard to blame anyone considering the high emotions throughout the day's events. The Kings fell short against the Rockets, losing 112-102.
Tyreke Evans and Marcus Thornton led the Kings, finishing with 22 and 21 points, respectively. Tyreke was limited to five points in the first half, sitting long stretches due to two quick fouls, but exploded with 16 points in the third quarter. Thornton put forth a strong effort off the bench, including scoring the Kings first 8 points to start the fourth quarter. Jason Thompson finished with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
The Rockets were led by Chandler Parsons, who finished the game with 29 points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal. James Harden chipped in 21 points. Omer Asik abused the Kings big men all night, finishing with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Given the day's events, the highlight of the event in my opinion was the halftime retrospective on Francisco Garcia. The Kings video team let me know they are working to clear the footage with the NBA, and the video may eventually be available on the team site. For the time being we don't have it available to embed, but it was a great tribute to Cisco's time here in Sacramento. The video was shown in Sleep Train Arena prior to tip off.
In the meantime, I can offer you this highlight of Marcus Thornton throwing it down on a fast break:
