Larry Bird will not be joining the Sacramento Kings organization, reports The Bee's Ailene Voisin. Vivek Ranadivé had lobbied Bird to join the club as the leader of the front office, but Bird has since indicated he won't be taking the job. He is not currently working after leaving the Pacers in 2012. Voisin reports he may remain on the sidelines another year or return to the Pacers.
The Bee's Jason Jones also tweeted Monday that while the Kings have permission to interview Nuggets assistant GM Pete D'Alessandro, a meeting had not yet been scheduled. That leaves the GM search at an interesting place. The club interviewed Chris Wallace, Mike Dunleavy and Travis Schlenk weeks ago. One would think that if any of them were to be hired, it'd happen once Bird dropped out. But the fact that the search continues makes their candidacies seem less likely.
All in all, it's looking more likely every day that coach Michael Malone will have a major voice in who the Kings select at No. 7.
