Hey guys. So a couple years ago I made a FanPost titled "Who would you protect?". The purpose of the fanpost was to simulate protecting players in response to a possible expansion draft. (And if any of you are upset about the state of the Kings right now, you can check out our roster from back then in the Fanpost linked here. I threw up in my mouth.)
So now I want to do this activity again with our current roster.
The last time an expansion draft occured was 2004 with the Charlotte Bobcats. I think that we will probably have another one with a franchise in Seattle in the next 3-5 years. In the 2004 expansion draft, the Kings left Gerald Wallace unprotected and Charlotte picked him up. He went on to become an All-Star as well as the Bobcats franchise leader in points among other achievements.
In expansion drafts, teams are allowed to protect 8 players from being picked by the expansion team.
Like my original FanPost, I want you to throw that out the window. For this exercise, I want you all to protect 5 players to protect. I pray that your lists will look better than the ones from a couple years ago, which for most people consisted of Tyreke, Cousins, Donte, Omri, and JT/Landry/Whiteside.
So here are the Rules/Hints!
1) You can only protect 5 players
2) Take into account the contracts of the players
Here are the players that you can choose from:
Isaiah Thomas, Jimmer Fredette, Ray McCallum, Greivis Vasquez, Marcus Thornton, Ben McLemore,
John Salmons, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, Travis Outlaw, Jason Thompson, Patrick Patterson, Carl Landry, Chuck Hayes, and DeMarcus Cousins.
In the original Fanpost, there was somewhat of a consensus in the picks. I expect this to be alot more wide open. Some will protect Isaiah, some won't. Some will protect JT, some won't. Some will protect P-Pat, some won't. It's going to be really interesting to see some of the opinions here.
So please post your five players, and give some reasoning. Have fun!
