Every year the NBA drat becomes my favorite part of the season, for the better part of 8 years now; and every year it seems like there are some absolute stud players picked later in the draft, passed over for players with "potential". This year, its starting to look like the draft has players slotted from 15-45 that look like they can be steals for teams that pick later in the draft. As a Kings fan, I like to keep all options open and think of scenarios that could play out where we kill two birds with one stone. One scenario that I'm really interested in is us trading down and picking up a strong young vet along with a later pick, or trading down picking up another young player with potential and a later draft pick.
A few players slotted late in the draft that I'm really interested in are Adrien Payne, Elfrid Payton, Clint Capela, T. J. Warren, Zack Lavine, Tyler Ennis, Russ Smith and a few more that are a little less intriguing than these guys. I've seen the scouting videos from Draftexpress on all these guys and they all seem to have long term starting potential, while being slotted around 15 or later in mocks. I havnt seen any of these guys play, and I want to know if anybody here has seen game action of these guys and what do you think of any of them being a good fit with the Kings? Ive seen somebody comment on another post that Chad Ford mentioned he thinks Elfrid Payton would be a good fit with the Kings, I agree after watching the scouting video on him but that's not enough for me to be sold on him (sorry Chad Ford). That's how I feel on a lot of these players, I just want to know more, so if anybody has opinions on any of these guys, leave a comment below. I know STR is doing draft profiles on a lot of players, but I don't think they'll do the guys who aren't getting picked in the 8 range.
Now, let me just give a little explanation why I don't want to stay at 8, its simply because I don't really like the options that are going to be availabe in that range. I don't like Vonleh at all, Smart is goung to be good but he's not a good fit with Gay an Cousins, Mcdermott can shoot it but I dont think he will be able to do much more than that (although the Kings need shooting, just not what im looking for at 8), Saric is sort of an unknown tweener and id rather not, Gthe crop of shooting guards around there don't excite me, I might be ok with Gordon because of his defense but for one I don't think he's there @8 and 2 I'm not that high on a guy who is a little undersized with no touch around the rim or jumpshot. Anyway, I'd rather trade down. If any of you have any ideas on trades or opinions on players layer in the draft, leave some comments. I really fo like Elfrid Payton as a late steal, just dont know how he looks in an actual game.
