The Kings are willing to give up their eighth overall pick in this year's NBA draft and a combination of players for Love, even though he would not be expected to sign a contract extension before next season – if ever, with the rebuilding, small-market franchise, the source said. Sacramento envisions Love and DeMarcus Cousins playing alongside each other in the front court.
Given that there aren't too many details, and given that we've already hashed this subject out on a prior thread, this isn't going to be the most extensive fan post ever. Instead, I'm just going to leave you with the link and a couple of my thoughts before letting you all have at it.
#1: Even if Minnesota still finds a trade partner that presents a better package for Minnesota, and with whom Kevin Love is willing to sign an extension - even if other teams start following D'Allesandro's lead by offering to trade for Love without an extension - however this turns out, this is yet another encouraging example of the front office taking initiative to make the Kings relevant again.
#2: It's clear that DeMarcus Cousins remains in the front office's game plan for the foreseeable future, and even a talent like Kevin Love isn't likely to change that.
#3: You don't make an offer like this unless you're confident you can deliver Kevin Love his much-coveted playoff berth in 2015.
