Kings select Nik Stauskas with the 8th pick in the 2014 NBA Draft

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The Sacramento Kings have selected Nik Stauskas of the University of Michigan with the 8th pick in the NBA Draft.  It's still unknown whether or not Sacramento will keep this pick or if a rumored trade between the Celtics involving Ben McLemore for the 6th pick (Marcus Smart) will still go through.

Stauskas is the best shooter in the draft besides Doug McDermott.  He averaged 19.7 points per game on 47.0% from the field and 44.0% from three last year for Michigan.  He also showed a nice passing game with 3.7 assists a game and one of the higher assist rates among this draft's crop of Shooting Guards.  The Kings have made it clear that shooting and passing were an offseason priority.  The Kings were 27th in the league in 3P% last year.

Stauskas is the second Shooting Guard in a row the Kings have drafted in the lottery, having drafted Ben McLemore last year.  It's unclear what the pick of Stauskas means for McLemore's future with the team.  The Kings also passed on Elfrid Payton, another player they were rumored to be very high on, as well as Noah Vonleh.

Welcome to Sacramento, Nik!

UPDATE 5:30 PM:

I'm not sure I'm sold on McLemore and Stauskas in the same backcourt together aside from situationally.
