Here's the problem at the moment. The Kings have 1 great offensive player, and a collection of isolation 1 on 1 good offensive players on the roster, combined with some up & down less selfish players littered elsewhere. There are some notable problems this roster has at the moment. I thought I would list some of them.
Spencer Hawes saw almost no action last night. Had Reggie, and the other players on the court been patient with him, I think he would have had a much better game than what he did do. Yet Quincy Douby, who would figure far more prominently against a team like the Warriors given his personal style, didn't play much either. There are some things Reggie has done well. His rotation still sucks.
Speaking of Reggie. TZ pointed it out, and I will point it out too. Why Mikki for so long?
More Reggie: If you want to play vs the Warriors and focus so much on the way they play, and I think it's evident with the 2-2-1 zone the team played practically all game ,and in general the walk up style the team employed, then you might want to focus on how your team gets shots against the WORST defense in the league. The Kings shot themselves in the foot. All game. Here's another problem. If you know Kevin is the focal point of the offense, and you know outside of Brad Miller the other players struggle finding him period, then you might have to do 1 of 2 things. Either design 2 man sets for Miller and Martin to take advantage of the extra attention. Or bring in someone like Mookey to set alot of screens so Kevin can get some pick & roll action. Reggie's reaction to this extra attention is equally as poor as Kevin's performance right now.
Ron Artest is who and what he is. Which is why if the Kings could swing a trade to the Knicks tomorrow I'd be ecstatic. Watching the great Ron Artest is fun. Watching the "other" Ron is not. I will note that he did a great job keeping Baron Davis in check for most of the game defensively.
Francisco Garcia is not a PG. This experiment is why this team badly needs (for the umpteenth time) a Derrick Rose type. Screw OJ Mayo Eric Gordon or Michael Beasley.
Trading Shareef Abdur Rahim for peanuts seems like a good trade for all concerned. Please do it. The only problem I see with Orlando at the moment, with regards to Shareef, is the history dating back to DC13(Doug Christie) being traded there. The Kings would have to be very open & honest about Shareef's medical status before Orlando, in any likelihood, would even CONSIDER doing that trade. It's always possible Shareef may have to retire medically if his knee isn't getting any better. (For the record I hope not. I've always liked Shareef dating back to his Cal days. I just hope he gets a chance to play on a good team like the Magic. He would be a terrific fit if he had anything physically left. My Jerry Reynolds moment is now over.)
Whatever has stalled Mike Bibby trade talks it needs to stop. Whatever anyone around here thinks Mike is worth, I guarantee GUARANTEE guaran-friggin-tee nobody will break the bank for him. Why would any team trade a near all star for the guy? The NBA is a competitive business. It is not a Hallmark card.
My last point is this. You have a roster that basically has this: An overaged on the decline center who makes the offense run smoothly 15 games a year while everyone else is a mismatched group of players whose games dont fit smoothly together. Just because Ron Artest is talented, and you don't want to give him away, which you shouldn't, doesn't mean you shouldn't look for offers for him anyway. Geoff Petrie's every waking moment should be looking for what teams want Mike and Ron now. There is no what if with this group anymore. It's beyond time, and then some and then some and then some, to break them up. Let it go already!
