Game 31 - vs Portland

Busy weekend, so I'm going to send you to Blazers Edge for all the Portland insight I couldn't give you anyways.

I doubt we'll see Justin Williams tonight, though that's the most exciting part of Kings v. Blazers anyone's going to get. This is a game the Kings should definitely win, so anything less is an abject failure.

Enjoy the game! (I'll be watching it when I wake up in the morning.)

Re: Game 31 - vs Portland
Bibby has ice water in his veins. 5-6 from 3-point range tonight. Just knocked down a big one, with 6 seconds left in OT. Kings now trail 108-105 and are getting the ball back. Think happy thoughts.

Re: Game 31 - vs Portland
Now Bibby misses. Dang. Can I turn a 180 and throw him under the bus now? Things don't look good.

Game over. Kings lose 115-110. Their second straight OT loss. TZ wrote "This is a game the Kings should definitely win, so anything less is an abject failure." So... yeah. We just had an abject failure.

As usual...
this very undisciplined team does all the little things wrong down the stretch and loses....again. It shouldn't surprise anybody.  This season has progressed far enough to understands the team's personality and habits.

Our problems are as much mental as physical.

Re: Game 31 - vs Portland
don't do this to me kings! just when they go on a nice roll they blow it, even though we had the laker game i chalked it as a loss, but the blazers! come on. is kevin martin suffering from nick anderson syndrome.

on a lighter note: was that justin williams in street clothes at the game?

and how about mo taylors block? that came out of nowhere

Re: Game 31 - vs Portland
I've been a huuuuge fan of E-Muss, but any more fourth quarters coached like he's been coaching them this season and I'll be asking for his head on a platter... or maybe a stick... or something else really, really sharp and shiny... any recommendations?

Re: Game 31 - vs Portland
We're 0-3 now in OT games. Just don't got the gas I guess...

Or maybe we need more heart.
It's on the players to take pride too.Is it the coaches fault when the players miss their free throws?

That being said , it'd help if the staff would draw up more plays for Kevin & Cisco. especially Cisco. His offenive choices are as ill-advised as his defensive instincts are good.

Let's talk about Free Throws
Remembering free throws that missed is a lot easier than remembering those that were made... so let's put on our "Stats Corner" hat:

Previous to tonight's "game":

* The Kings have attempted 907 free throws, to the opposition's 792.

(This shows they get to the line often, and don't foul more)

* The Kings have made 720 of those shots. The opponents? 586.

(The Kings have made roughly 80% to the other guys' 74%)

  • The Kings have taken more free throws in 22 games, and gone 9-13.
  • The Kings have taken fewer free throws in 6 games, and are a stunning 5-1 when that happens.
  • In the two games where both teams took the same amount, the Kings are 0-2.

What I'm trying to say, long windedly, is that the Kings are getting a ton of chances at the line, and they are converting better than their opponents. We should know this. But just because they are getting to the line (and making shots), it doesn't mean that wins games. It's just easy to remember when they fail.

Re: Let's talk about Free Throws
Points well taken...but like you just said, it's easy to notice the misses when they're at the worst possible time in a 4th quarter that sucked offensively already....Let's say missing free throws when you're already heaving up bricks & forgetting all you've learned about defense in the pre-season isn't gonna get it done.

Re: Or maybe we need more heart.
I was at the game tonight.  I saw us acquire a lead in regulation by going inside and then stop looking inside all together.  The Blazers did not show an ability to deny the inside game, Coach just stopped pushing it and had 4 men on the perimeter playing catch.  We're not a perimeter team anymore.  We have to do what works, and with this team, playing inside-out works.  Muss needs to learn to not fix something if it isn't broken.  We built the lead, and he "fixed" it, inevitably leading to OT and our demise.
