Thursday Links & Notes

  • Francisco Garcia's play was more unnerving last night than in prior crap games this preseason. Why? His defense looked horrid. His offense has been off-and-on all month... and that's fine; he's a slow starter. But the defense? That's gotta be a constant... especially against a poor offensive team like the Clippers.
  • This Clippers season might get exciting after all. You'll want to be tuned in when Al Thornton and Tim Thomas fight to the death over shot attempts. Should be very entertaining.
  • The final NBA Festivus, on our very own Pacific Division! I also do the big reveal on my postseason predictions.
  • How funny. Kevin Martin shoots 60% through six preseason games, and no sprinkler system activation is requested b y Grant Napear. Mike Bibby shoots 58% for one preseason game, and damn it! turn on those sprinklers! I don't really understand the entry requirements for this catchphrase, I guess.
  • By the way, it's preseason for the Associated Press as well. Bibby was the goat? No mention of the controversial no-call? John Salmonds?
  • Shareef Abdur-Rahim calls Mike Bibby "the black Larry David." This is much better than similar nicknames for Amare Stoudemire and Gilbert Arenas.
  • Free Darko: book deal.
  • I hear Justin Williams participates in this type of activity as well.
  • KCRA and the local American Red Cross have a pledge drive for victims of the Southern California firestorms. Visit the preceding link or call 1-800-513-3333 to donate. I think this is one instance in which we can look past the innate personality flaws which afflict the people of Los Angeles and help out. Blood is also needed.

Re: Thursday Links & Notes
I thought Bibby's nickname is Mini-Me but now that he's sporting a mini afro that may be gone. (or changed to Mini-Me-with-hair).

Re: Thursday Links & Notes
His dad is Henry Bibby, who, I think, is multi-racial. (Black and white). I have no idea about his mom. So, to some extent, he's multi-racial. He's a really pale guy; I can see where you'd be thrown off.

Re: Thursday Links & Notes
When you say "she", are you talking about Mike or his mom?

Re: Thursday Links & Notes
That makes Mike 3/4 white.  Not that it matters.  I really don't care if he's green , as long as he hits his shots.

"...as long as he hits his shots."

And to that I give you a HUGE Amen!

Re: Thursday Links & Notes
Henry Bibby isn't the darkest guy ever either. But she's very light skinned (and if I remember correctly blonde).

Re: Thursday Links & Notes
What the heck is up with the Clipper's total ownage of speed racer?  He seems to struggle big time just about every game against the mighty clip ships.  Do they have some sort of Piston like "Martin rules".
Damn you Robert Horry!!!

Re: Thursday Links & Notes
I meant to mention this -- they sent four guys at him once when he received the ball at the free throw line. He burned them often his sophomore season; I think Dunleavy refuses to let him beat them again. It's helped Bibby twice now (last night and one game last year).

they use the kryptonite which, unfortunately, isn't banned yet by the League

35 wins: Overzealous optimism or irrational exuberance?

Re: Thursday Links & Notes
I was watching the game last night and thinking that the team looks a lot like it did last year with the exception that, at times this pre-season, the help defense looks better. And, to be fair, I think the offense is showing the potential for improved flow. I think 35 - 40 wins is realistic because, for all their faults, the guys play very hard and will score points.  So, they are going to be "in" games like they were last year. And, I have a hard time believing that they will lose as many close games this year as last. (Although, I've just recently watched them lose two close games they should have won.)

Guess we will see come April...

Re: Thursday Links & Notes
Looking back to last year and all those close games they lost. They were constantly "in" the game, until that eventual third quarter after everyone drank the kool aid. We haven't really seen too many signs of it during preseason, and if we keep it up, we'll have a lot more of these close games go our way I think. We could actually have a somewhat decent team

Re: Thursday Links & Notes
I remember all those overtime losses last year. A couple of those should go the other way... not because of team improvement, because of the random nature of endgame scenarios. (Like the no-call last night.)

A Festivus for the rest of us! TZ, that was an absolutely outstanding series. Thanks for the insight and the laughs.
