Hawes Escapes Microfracture

... but he still needs to go under the knife.

The Bee's Sam Amick reports Spencer Hawes will have arthroscopic knee surgery Wednesday. There's no timetable for his return. This type of 'clean-up surgery' is usually a summertime rehab; Shareef Abdur-Rahim had this done in June and he'll probably be ready in November. But there's less invasive versions, too: Amare Stoudemire had a scope two weeks ago and he's good as new already. I'm guessing we'll know more Wednesday night/Thursday morning.

Avoiding microfracture -- which Shawes had on this same left knee at age 14 mind you -- was the victory here. So huzzah, I think.

Re: Hawes Escapes Microfracture
Coming into the draft, I never heard about the microfracture surgery he had at 14.  Is this the second coming of Pervis Ellison?  I didn't know a 14 year old could ever get or need a microfracture surgery.  Am I wrong or isn't it reserved for knees with little or no cartilidge.  Bad sign...
Damn you Robert Horry!!!

Re: Hawes Escapes Microfracture
Okay, so the bad news is that your team blew a Top 10 draft pick on an unathletic white guy with a history of knee problems.

The good news:  At least Greg Oden will have a Halo 3 partner this season!

Hey, Ziller
Any significance to the fact that Mike Bibby and Bea Arthur were born on the same day?

Re: Hawes Escapes Microfracture
What about the significance of Bibby having the same b-day as Jim Jones, Stevie Wonder and Dennis Rodman???? Make what you want of that...

Re: Hawes Escapes Microfracture
This news on Hawes is so incredibly ridiculous. How does the Kings medical staff allow this kid to pass a team physical? Hawes has had at least 4 surgeries on his left knee including micro-fracture before the age of 19 and now he needs at least one more surgery before ever playing a NBA game?

WTF!!!!!!!!

We are slipping into the NBA abyss.

Re: Hawes Escapes Microfracture
Maybe Shawes is the first evidence of clear senility on Lord Petrie's part as well.

Re: Hawes Escapes Microfracture
The surgery went really well, he is already walking with hardly even a limp.  He will be back practicing in about 2 weeks and will only miss a few games.  He is not unathletic at all, if you don't believe me check his sparq scores from Nike camp, it was clean up procedure that is no big deal at all.

Re: Hawes Escapes Microfracture
Agreed on his athleticism, which I think is overblown by most Kings fans.  The guy may be unathletic compared to your average guard or small forward, but amongst centers, he's plenty athletic.

Good to hear about the surgery...I think the microfracture talk was related to something that was reported in the Bee, but I'm not sure.

and I'm not really sure about the title of this post because microfracture was never in the picture...
