Thursday Footnotes, Courtesy of Beno
- Sam Amick reports the Kings might have just signed Beno Udrih. More soon. At the very least, Mustafa Shakur has been cut. Happy trails, young man.
- Here's the 'four factors boxscore'; I hope to bring it to you after every Kings game this year.
Team ORtg eFG OReb% TORate FTRate
SAC 94.7 .463 19.5 15.8 18.5
NOH 109.5 .571 29.7 20.0 20.8
The only thing the Kings did well statistically: limit turnovers. Many of New Orleans' giveaways were unforced, so you can't even give them credit for the Hornets' high turnover rate. - Orien Greene will get bashed for his game. Just know the Kings outscored the Hornets by five points in the first half when Orien was at the point (21-16 in nine minutes with stints in both quarters). Orien Greene wasn't the problem. Most (all?) of those minutes came with Chris Paul on the floor.
- Quincy Douby says he'll be fine by Friday's game in San Antonio.
- Sam Amick says a Bobby Jackson and Rasual Butler for Kenny Thomas trade almost happened this summer. I continue to be floored by New Orleans' apparent continuing lust for K-9 (woof!).

Not too much game footage available, a lot of what's availible kind of hurts the eyes.

Re: Thursday Footnotes, Courtesy of Beno
Thanks for pointing that out TZ. I was thinking the same thing. As a matter of fact, all through the preseason that was exactly what I noticed, that the Kings did well when Greene was on the floor for the most part. But am I the only one who noticed a certain amount of unsureness in his offense? It's looked like he had no plays to run. I knew foul trouble would keep him off the floor. He needs to work on playing defense without fouling so much.

I really can't see the Hornets - who are really careful with their cap - picking up Thomas and his contract, which goes longer than Butler and Jackson's. They are relying on Butler and Jackson coming off the cap so they can extend Paul.

Re: Thursday Footnotes, Courtesy of Beno
To be honest, even though I am fine with us waiving Mustafa Shakur and keeping Greene, I think that in his 3rd year in the league, Mustafa would have been a much better player than Greene is now. Of course, that's three years from now and we can't wait for that. One thing I liked about Shakur is that he was fast, knew how to push the ball, penetrate and get the ball to the open man. Orien is a very good defensive player but... that's it. He can't shoot, run an offense, penetrate or run the fast break.
Call me crazy, but I would have liked to keep Shakur instead. Hey, we are rebuilding aren't we?

Re: Thursday Footnotes, Courtesy of Beno
Anyway, my main point (no pun intended) is that Shakur and Greene are both marginal players. If the Kings are rebuilding then why not keep Mustafa instead? Did we get Greene because he is more experienced and so a better player right now? Well, Justin Williams is less experienced than K9 but who would you rather be in the game? We are going nowhere this year anyway.

I think that Garcia and Douby need 20 mins each at the PG spot.

Re: Thursday Footnotes, Courtesy of Beno
Don't get me wrong. I'd loved to be surprised, but I don't see any reason to expect his assists to go up, and turnovers have plagued him his whole NBA career. Have to wait and see if the scoring difference is a trend or a blip.

Beno Udrih, your newest sacramento king.
He's always been a solid PG when I've seen him play. Granted, this was mostly during garbage time, he's probably one of the better options we have right now
