GAME 2 at San Antonio, Preview & Open Game Thread

If nothing else, we can learn.

Personnel is only a part of the rebuilding process. Growth might be as important. Kevin Martin is great -- he can become better by getting 20 shots a night, finding holes and crevices and creaks in uniformly iron defenses. If you accept the beatdown to come while supplying the effort to make it competitive, you can get something from a sub-par shooting night with lots of turnovers. The final buzzer isn't a repudation of your skills; it's a bell signaling the end of this particular class.

This is why Spencer Hawes' knees are so irritating. He should be getting 10 minutes a night in games like the one to come tonight. Sure, there's plenty of March and April. But how much is there really to take in positive terms from a fairly certain 10-point loss in San Antonio (not to mention what horrors follow Saturday in Dallas).

No matter; you've got to play them all. And we do have Martin, Francisco Garcia and Quincy Douby to watch. No offense to the pieces which are not likely in Geoff Petrie's future plans, which seems to be pretty much everyone else.

As such, no need to belabor the preview. Tip comes at 5:30 p.m. on Comcast locally; radio at 1140 AM. All your thoughts before, during and after come in this thread.

I'll be watching the Celtics but listening to the Kings yet again. Let's see if we can get a good effort tonight, that's all I ask.

Me Against the World
Brad Miller 4 SAS 11

We should just put B52 against the entire Spurs team and see if he can score 30. It just might be as interesting as this game is turning out to be.

I wonder if the Grizzlies mascot should be scared when the Kings come to town. There might be enough time left to look into a kevlar vest.

Garcia = the only reason to watch.
Hot damn Garcia gives me something to watch this game.  Thanks Cisco, the people who pay to advertise during Kings games owe you some royalties for keeping their ratings as high as they are right now.

Embaressing to Watch!
Does anyone still want to argue that Kenny Thomas is not THE WORST offensive low post player around the hoop in Kings history!!!!

Kenny sure does drive a hard bargain.

I wonder...
What's the worst FG% for a team in a game? Whatever it is we might make a good run at it.

Curious
How many more open look 3's do we need to give the Spurs before they decide to hit them consistently and REALLY embarrass us.

by dkons21 on Nov 2, 2007 6:06 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Well this game is ugly...
How about these early return...

T-Wolves up by 9 over the Nuggz. I predicted 0-82 so I would feel dumb if they win the first one.

Pistons up on the Magic by 16. Rashard Lewis, $$$ well spent.

Raptors up by 30 over the Nets. Good God I thought the Nets would be good.

I turned on the TV and thought that K9(woof!), 'Reef, Moore and Miller were all on the floor at the same time. Then I realized I was watching the "Walking with Dinosaurs" ad.

Re: GAME 2
I'm really hope that when Artest comes back he gets lots of time at the 4. If we're going to get outrebounded anyway we might as well clear the way for more floor time for Garcia and Salmons.

Hawes shouldn't have too much trouble finding minutes in this group, either.

Where are you rebounds!
Why is it the only people on our team that can rebound all play small forward?  Salmons, Artest, Cisco...

Nobody else even seems to make an effort, thank god Watkins is out on the floor now, I want to see him dominate.

Oh and how about my 3's prediction... spurs just keep on shooting them, and they're starting to make them more often!

Re: GAME 2
The one stat that will look worse than it really is for us is assists. There have been a few nice passes but no one knows how to finish.

Rebounds, on the other hand, is a pretty accurate stat - WE SUCK!!!

Re: GAME 2
I love how Grant says this game is still within reach. We're 17 points down. We may not score 17 points for the rest of the night!

I don't think that Grant is going to have to call for the sprinkler system to be turned on tonight.

Re: GAME 2 at San Antonio,
The line up I want to see.

Orien, Kevin, Salmons, Artest, Miller.

6th man = Garcia, and play him anywhere 1-4.

With Watkins replacing Miller.

God I hope Justin Williams shit gets resolved soon, I am really missing his boarding abilities.

Re: GAME 2 at San Antonio
Grant is hilarious, I would LOVE to know how you defend against Parker, he'll draw the foul all day... Best case scenario he ONLY draws a double or triple team before kicking it out to the perimeter which remains undefended.

Or maybe he plays the perimeter when he gets tired of being whacked in the face and just gives it to Tim Duncan, another force we can't contain...

This is abysmal at best.

Lowest FG percentage, lowest total FGs, or least points scored. Which one will we break?

Hmm the difference in rebounding is only 13 for the first half...

I wonder what the point spread was in vegas for this game, god I wish I had bet on the spurs, anything under 30 was a steal.

Damn, this is an ugly start to the year. Two games, two ugly performances. Bad announcers. Crappy sideline and halftime reporters. And two games with no high-def feed.

Re
http://www.basketball.com/nba/records/NBAteamRegFG.shtml

just click it and you'll see that the lowest total field goal percentage for a game, from both teams was .246 back in 1954. One of those teams, the Milwaukee Hawks, went .229 which appears to be the lowest field goal percentage by a team in a game. We're at .194. So we're close to breaking a record

Good Gravy
Can I just point out that Grant and Jerry have been talking for the last 10 or 15 minutes about how well the Kings are doing?  We're down 23.

Also, how could the Kings replace tool boy Jim Kozimor with a cute Asian woman, and have me longing for Jim Kozimor?  In other news, up is down.

Re: GAME 2 at San Antonio,
If we could play 48 minutes like we played the last three of that third quarter, we'd be a championship caliber team... The defensive stops, the rebounding, the offense, hot damn, there was a gem in the rough right there!

I think we should play the small line up.

with Garcia+Salmons at the 3/4.

Our "power forwards" play so much worse than our smalls, why even play the powers, except to rest the smalls?

Re: GAME 2
no! don't bench Brad. we need him to talk a little smack to Howard tomorrow night. maybe he can take a punch for the team and eliminate one of the Mavs' best offensive weapons.

Re: GAME 2
I agree, Brad can't rebound but at least he scores. Not at the rate needed from him but at least he's in double figures. I'm at a loss on how horrific our PF spot is. I hear Chris Webber is still available (please I am joking, kinda).

Re: GAME 2 at San Antonio, Preview
Pathetic performance.

Why is Kenny Thomas still starting? he plays the first couple of minutes and than he misses a couple layups and plays awful and for the rest of the game he does not play starter minutes, Start Shareef or Moore or Watkins or even Hawes when he comes back..Thomas is the last guy i want starting in the first 1st quarter he was WIDE OPEN i mean nobody by him and he had a chance to dunk the ball instead he went for the layup and missed it..talking about a moron...he does not deserve to be in the NBA.

Don't be surprised if Watkins gets the start over K9(woof!) tomorrow. I think Theus wants to send a message to the bigs, and I can't think of a better way to get their attention than by starting the "walk on."
