Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Wednesday Footnotes

  • Ailene Voison had a good profile of Francisco Garcia on Monday. A lot of telling pieces on Reggie Theus' goals for him, the most central of which is he needs to run more. The whole team needs to run more.
  • It's snowing and sleeting on the Kings in Boston.
  • Theus' old job, New Mexico State... they sucked this year. It might have something to do with Reggie. It likely has more to do with elite prospect Herb Pope's academic ineligibility.
  • Kendrick Perkins won't play tonight because he dropped a bed on his toe. And really, who hasn't?
  • Reggie used to write an advice column in a youth sports magazine. Seriously. This Q&A made me laugh:
Question: My coach plays favorites. I know I am a much better player than the player ahead of me. How do I get the coach to see the light? I'm getting frustrated and feel like quitting.

Answer: Remember that quitting never solves anything. Never quit! If you are truly better, then keep working hard with your nose to the grindstone and he or she will have to take notice. I believe the cream always rises to the top. At all levels of sports there are always going to be some coaches who play favorites -- I too had this problem when I was younger -- but you can't let it get to you if you're determined to succeed. You'll eventually get your chance to preform, and when the oppurtunity comes up, you better be ready, so keep working and improving your skills. It might mean that you have to work twice as hard, but you'll be the one to benefit in the long run.

Re: Wednesday Footnotes
Anyone check out the youtube link at the bottom of Amick's blog?  It's a clip of Dahntay Jones dunking on Yao Ming.  Yao's positioned a little deep under the rim, so its not exactly Price/Boozer, but nice.

Re: Wednesday Footnotes
No Kendrick Perkins, no Scot Pollard! Here's our chance to catch them while their banged up. Kind of like how teams are doing to us. I wonder whose starting at center...Big Baby? Scalabrine? Should make the game even more interesting.

Re: Wednesday Footnotes
Big Baby is a beast. He's going to be pretty good in the NBA. His career night so far might come tonight going against Moore and Thomas
He can shoot, and he looks great in a suit. Hey, everybody - It's REGGIE TIME!

Kenny Thomas (woof): Coach you are playing favorites. I know I am a much better player than the player ahead of me. How do I get you to see the light? I'm getting frustrated and feel like quitting.

Coach Reggie: Remember that quitting never solves anything but if you want to opt out this off season I think we can work something out. But if you are truly a better canine, then keep working hard with your nose to the groin and I will have to take notice. I believe the cream always rises to the top unless it sours. At all levels of sports there are always going to be some coaches who play favorites -- I too have this problem when I  coach -- but you can't let it get to you if you're determined to succeed. You'll eventually get your chance to perform, and when the oppurtunity comes up try to score more points than the nubmer of personal fouls you commit, you better be ready, so try working and develop some skills. It might mean that you have to work twice as hard to bring your performance up and we will be the ones to benefit in the long run when we trade you to the Knicks.

Re: Wednesday Footnotes
Vegas is giving Sac +15. To be optimistic, that's a good thing because Boston has beaten it's 10 opponents at home by an average of 21...on another note, one of the NBA's funniest starting matchups will take place. Mikki Moore vs. Glen Davis! Bones vs. Meat!

Re: Wednesday Footnotes
Given Moore's lobster claws, wouldn't that be Surf 'n' Turf?

Re: Wednesday Footnotes
So basically what Vegas is saying is that even if Salmons wraps up Allen and Artest takes care of Pierce, KG is still easily 15pts better than Brad Miller. Can't say I disagree.
