Lost in Translation

I think the technical foul on Yao Ming was unfair. Clearly, he's familiar with the English idiom "throw in the towel." Having fouled out, he simply tossed the towel across the court to indicate he accepted his fate, that he was ready to "throw in the towel."  Stupid refs.

Seriously, Yao is a sight. We've been trying to catch him live a few years now, but this was my first chance. His skill level is so disarming. I mean, if you have that sort of body you shouldn't get the benefit of massive skills too. It's almost unfair. In the first half, it was -- no one could think about stopping him. I don't know what halted his efforts in the second half -- maybe a little worry about foul trouble, maybe some tiredness. Tracy McGrady didn't suffer the same affliction.

There's a guy I've seen live a few times, T-Mac. And he's always amazing. When watching his fourth quarter explosion, I tried to look at what he does which Kevin Martin could duplicate to make sure he gets a bulk of shots. And I figured it out: He takes a ton of inexplicable shots. I guess you have to do that to be an Alpha dog in this league. Kevin never take bad shots. We wouldn't hold it against him if he started doing so.

And let's end with a rousing round of applause for Spencer Hawes, who simply dominated the paint in the third and fourth quarters as Brad Miller sat with foul trouble, Mikki Moore sat with ineffectiveness, and Kenny Thomas sat with Kenny Thomasness. Five rebounds in eight minutes during that stretch, and great court awareness and movement -- he set a lot of screens for Kevin and Ron. Three cheers for that.

Re: Lost in Translation
In Yao's defense, I thought those last two fouls on him were suspect.  He had a good reason to bitch.

Re: Lost in Translation
Are you kidding me? On Yao's 6th foul against Beno Yao had no position and he didn't keep his arm straight up. Yao got Beno with the body and reached out and hit his arm too. Beno appears to be the only King who understands the 6 fouls and your out rule. As soon as Beno saw the switch and Yao all alone in the lane he beat him to the spot and drew a legitimate foul.

Re: Lost in Translation
Absolutely correct. Those were total no brainer fouls - very easy calls.

We held it against Bibby.

Re: Lost in Translation
Dave L, I think what we hold against Bibby is that he just takes a lot of shots, period. That's fine for what we used to be, but as the team is comprised now we need a point guard that distributes at least as much as he shoots. Bibby's contract is holding us back from rebuilding and when he's on the floor he holds the young guys back from growing. Mike has not changed, his surroundigs have. His talents would be better utilized elsewhere.

Re: Lost in Translation
S-214,

I agree with what you said, but do not agree that Kmart should begin jacking up any and all junk.  My comment was not meant to be in defense of Bibby's poor shot selection but was pointing out that what was wrong for Bibby is also wrong for Kmart.  Kmart needs to realize that defenses are now wise to him and he needs to devise a new strategy to take the next step.  He needs to be more active on offense, cutting and coming off screens to get open and not simply stand out on the wing.

Re: Lost in Translation
Agreed. As I have mentioned before, I would like to see the Kings run some of those old Indiana Pacers double screens for him. I can see TZ's point, though. We really don't know what a bad shot is for SpeedRacer right now, while we see guys like T-Mac, Kobe, AI and others take questionable shots on a regular basis (and hit some of them, too!). I would like to see Martin get a little closer to that sane/insane shot line, but we don't need him to cross it...although it would give Ron some company.

Re: Lost in Translation
Hawes was legit in the second half...If he plays like that every night, combined with what we know he's capable of on offense, he'll be a good one for a long time.

Re: Lost in Translation
I thought Hawes was awesome. He took some bad shots but I felt like he wasn't getting any looks from his teammates so when he got a rebound he wasn't about to give the ball up. I think Hawes has earned a big boost in minutes.

Re: Lost in Translation
Regarding Hawes, I have not seen that type of activity from one of our big guys since Justin Williams was on our roster. What's that? He still is on our roster? Hmmm, something here just doesn't add up...

Funny you mention that....
J-Will lokked a little sad riding the pine....do you think that hawes is going to get more minutes because of the perception that maybe he's a better passer(e.g., more "bradlike?")& not just a screen-stter & rebounder?

Re: Funny you mention that....
I'm OK with Hawes getting minutes. I'd just like to see Williams in there from time to time, especially when we're getting pummeled on the boards (which is practically all of the time).

Re: Funny you mention that....
Williams had a ton of fun jacking up threes with Ron in the warm-ups, actually.

Re: Funny you mention that....
The big difference between Justin and Spencer is Spencer can shoot, especially freethrows. For that reason Spencer is more valuable.  Justin has nobody to blame but himself.  He has had plenty of time to improve his shooting.  But who knows?  Maybe Spencer's recent good rebounding is only a fluke.  Justin is a proven rebounder/shot blocker.

Re: Funny you mention that....
I don't want Williams' minutes to come at the expense of Hawes. Give him some of lobster boy's minutes - Moore is less.
