Me and my stupid mouth:

(Is Kevin Martin) Out for 2 minutes out? Out for the whole game out? Or out for 2 months out?

Sam Amick of the Bee is reporting that in the wake of the Kings' impressive win over the Jazz, that leading scorer Kevin Martin will be out one to two months due to a groin injury suffered near the conclusion of the 3rd quarter of the game.

Oy. The pleasures of being a Kings fan. We saw how the Kings played without Bibby. We saw how the Kings played without Bibby and Artest. Now that Artest is back, we'll get to see if he, along with Salmons and Beno, can keep the Kings in the 'W' column.

Who starts at the 2 now? Cisco...Salmons... neither one is a shooting guard. I guess Francisco makes the most sense but that means an awful lot of minutes for Artest, Salmons, and Cisco. I suppose Douby might have another chance to prove himself but he has been lackluster in his play thus far. I hope he does plays well because this may be his last chance if he doesn't show the team SOMETHING.

Wait, why can't Salmons and Garcia play shooting guard? Is there a 6'6 height limit or something?

96 divided by 3 = 32 minutes each. That's too many for Artest, Salmons, and Cisco to handle?

Douby hasn't shown us anything?

I don't know where you get 96 minutes but those three have to compensate for 40 minutes that used to go to Kevin. Ron already averages 40 minutes per game with Salmons with 32 and Cisco with 26. Ron cannot go any more than he already does. Cisco can go for 10 more minutes, Salmons for maybe 8 more which leaves about 20 or so for Douby. That brings him to around 30 minutes per game. That is quite a bit of minutes for a team to absorb. I think this group can do it but fatigue throughout the season will be a factor. An early Bibby return would be great at this point. I was very content to not rush MB10 back but now I would push his recovery to the limit. I do not think Douby is ready to contribute for 30 minutes right now. I pray I am wrong but results don't lie. He has shown flashes of potential but overall is highly inconsistent. He has an opportunity... will he take it or choke.

96 is the total amount of minutes we have at the 2 and 3 positions each game. What if we did this?

SG -- Salmons 34 min, Garcia 14 min
SF -- Artest 38 min, Garcia 10 min

That seems very do-able to me.

Don't discount Artest's PF minutes; he's been getting at least 5 min with either Miller, Moore or Hawes at C recently.

I still have high hopes for Douby. I just think the team, and Reggie, needs to figure him out. It's not as if Reggie was designing stellar plays for Kevin or anything.

Douby sucks. Let Salmons have the starting spot. He definitely earned it with his early play. Garcia and Salmons both need to spend some time with Chuck Person or this offense is going to be extremely limited without any outside shooting.

I have to tell you, as an A's fan and Cal football fan as well, this has NOT been a great sports year. The A's were dropping like flies all season long. If it wasn't Rich Harden or Justin Duchscherer, it was Eric Chavez, Mike Piazza, Huston Street, Bobby Crosby or Milton Bradley out. You name it, and they went down.

That Martin is now out is a big blow for the Kings though. It's not as if this team has a very deep bench and a wide array of scoring options. Should be interesting to see how the new minutes get allocated. Does Justin Williams get playing time? Spencer Hawes? Douby? Or does KT continue to eat up minutes?

I'm stumped. How ridiculous that this news comes after what could be seen as one of the biggest wins of the short season (the Spurs game being the only possible exception)?

As far as Martin going down maybe the silver lining is this. It allows Bibby to jack up his trade value some?

Quincy Douby really stepped up tonight, especially on defense, and Theus did a good job of riding his play on an off night for Beno. The Kings turned the game around when Douby was at the controls. Now he's going to get a longer look with K-Mart sidelined.

Martin hurt it on a layup with 40 secs left. He clearly is holding his crotch for the rest of the 3rd qtr. He strained it somehow on that jump.

I don't know why all of you are panicking. Did you not witness what happened last night after Kmart went out? The Kings scored 42 in the forth quarter! If that is any indication of what the Kings can do without Martin then they will be fine. So let's just see how this pans out.

But the pace has to be changed because Cisco and Salmons are much less consistent/efficient shooters than Kevin. To keep scoring like that Theus will have to run 'em a little more so that those two get more shots

I was under the impression it was mid to late December. Damn, this sucks. The first east coast road trip was an excellent chance to rack up a few road wins. It's going to be sooo much tougher without Speed Racer's scoring ability.

Although this is a big disappointment, I'm not too worried. John Salmons has proven himself this year that he deserves a lot of PT. He averaged over 20 a game when Artest was out and last night he took over in the 4th quarter and put the Jazz away. I look for him to come up huge during this time.
