GAME 19 at Denver, Game Thread

If you were concocting an opportunity for the team's first road win, in Denver on zero rest with Kevin Martin injured... that'd not be the recipe I'd print on an index card.

Look forward to a defensive struggle with both teams scoring 110. Denver has no conscience; the Kings offense might not be conscious. Actually, in fairness, the first half offense for Sacramento last night was good-to-very good. Mikki Moore played a significant role in the success. Tell me if you're willing to bet on that continuing.

(In fairness, he hasn't bobbled a pass in two games, based on my vision. And I haven't seen him flash double threes [which a fellow spectator referred to as a gang sign] after a vicious dunk in about a week. Mikki is growing on us!)

John Salmons triple-doubled the Nuggets last year in the blizzard; Ron Artest and Carmelo Anthony always makes for high entertainment value. Add Allen Iverson and we have a party.

Seriously, not to be morbid, but: Go into it with no expectations. It'll probably be a fun watch, right?

Game's at 6. Go Kings.

Re: GAME 19 at Denver, Game Thread
i don't know why you keep ripping on mikki, tz.  i love this guy.  i love his hustle and thunderous dunks whenever he can hold the ball.  everytime he throws it down, and flashes the gang sign(im pretty sure the three fingers are for mm, or mikki moore.)i get pumped and jump off the sofa and start yelling just like him.  i half wish i had dreads so i could shake them like mikki does.  his half hook is improving and his long arms can disrupt on the defensive end sometimes.  also when he rebounds, which isn't much, he rips the ball from the air, which also pumps me up and gets me off the sofa.  i find myself throwing the gang signs sometimes now when he does it.  hes improving every day as far as im concerned, and hes better than any other 4 we have.  i agree that theus is making a mistake with kenny over justin.  justin does the same stuff mikki does, when he has a monster dunk, he yells, which gets me off the sofa.  i just love the hustle guys who play with passion.
when will the Kenny Thomas Reign of Terror end?!!??

Re: GAME 19 at Denver, Game Thread
I think the "hustle" factor tends to fool the casual NBA fan a bit. They see a guy with energy on the court and tend to overlook his flaws in actual basketball skills.  For instance, here are Mikki's ranking in the NBA per 48 minutes:

Points - 179th
Rebounds - 76th
Assists - 198th
Blocks - 75th
Steals - 186th

If he was a guy straight out of college you'd say "Ok, he has some athleticism, lots of energy...he's 7' tall - a project player, let's give him some minutes".  But when it's a 32 year old, playing for his ninth team in the NBA, playing for a team that is really in rebuilding mode - the guy should be waving a towel on the bench unless it's blowout city or one of the younger guys gets hurt.

I just don't understand why this guy is playing substantial minutes. He's a known quantity, let's see what else we have.

Re: GAME 19 at Denver, Game Thread
So the only difference between Moore and Joakim Noah is 11 years? Just kidding, otis. I agree with you.

I'm being held captive at my daughter's cheer competition so any and all game updates are greatly appreciated.

Re: GAME 19 at Denver, Game Thread
Justin Williams is going to end up on another team when he's a free agent next year, and he's going to absolutely punish people.  Unless we manage to trade him to someone with one of our expiring contracts.

Poor Shareef, such class, such passion... Didn't the Nets turn him down because they saw problems with his knees? I feel for him, but we got a taste of karma with this deal.

We're most likely stuck with Thomas for the duration of his contract. Maybe they're trying to use him until he can learn to play and trade him? Either way we're screwed with him.

I'm afraid this one is gonna be ugly, like down 20 in the first half ugly. So, my hope is we can stay within 10 thru 3, then anything can happen.

Down 12 at the half and lucky to be that close. Denver started settling for jumpers in the 2nd and missed a lot of 'em.

Re: GAME 19 at Denver, Game Thread
crap, my dilemma: I started watching the game (via ESPN gamecast) when the Kings were up, then proceeded to see them get trounced. Paranoid fannedness took over, and I had to close the window lest I be the cause for our downfall, and what happens? Kings go on a run.
Bejeezles. If Kings win this, I might never allow myself to watch another game (till they loose again).

I agree. However, Douby is NOT a point guard. Never will be. He needs to be given a chance to play the way he likes to play. Run some pick and rolls for him and let him create on and off the dribble. He never will be a Steve Nash, much less a Bibby-type PG.

Re: GAME 19 at Denver, Game Thread
How many more games can we give away before it finally hits home and the Kings STOP giving them away... I mean Minnesota, Portland, Denver... There's three road games.  Without even going into the Suns, Cavs, Warriors, and Clippers that we gave away at home... hmm what would our record be with that 7 game swing? 14-5?

Re: GAME 19 at Denver, Game Thread
Well TZ was right the game was fun to watch, but the refs blew so many calls. Cisco was obviously fouled, that last called foul on Brad was horrible, and the jump ball call with Ron driving to the hoop was pathetic.

The Kings played hard enough to deserve that win.

Re: GAME 19 at Denver, Game Thread
nuggets announcers said that that garcia was lucky not to get called for an offensive foul-- this judgement must have come from the "kobe's elbow was fouled by mike's nose" precedent. they also praised the jump ball as a great call and then upon looking at the replay said "well he got arm, but still got some ball! good call." ah, league pass.

Re: GAME 19 at Denver, Game Thread
Denver threw it away 26 times and the Kings didn't capitalize. I never bought into the close games are 50-50 proposition bull cr@p. Teams who have discipline, consistency and some kind of an identity win tend to win the close games. While luck does play a role and the Kings have been at times unlucky but most of these close losses are warranted to poor execution, lack of consistency and no identity especially with Martin and Bibby out.

Expect the Kings to continue to blow leads especially on the road even to inferior teams and expect most if not all of the Kings home games to be competitive. If the Kings don't outwork people, they aren't going to win.

Absolutely.
If they had executed better & taken better care of the ball, would it have come down to the last possessions like that?Denver gave them plenty of chances to take advantage with their own sloppy ball handling; & they(the Kings) surely failed to capitalize.

Still, those calls were terrible. I don't blame Theus for being pissed off. What a load of sheisse.

& will someone please get Quincy Douby a portable shot clock that ticks that he can pin to his jersey or something.

& my lord...100 lashes on myself for calling K9 a good rebounder last year. Mikki looks like a rebounding machine in comparison...my lord.

Theus would probably say that it's because K-9 is much more experienced but how the hell is Justin supposed to GET experience? I also don't like the way they are using Spencer Hawes lately. He needs to be more involved on offense. Post him up or use him in the pick and pop more.
