Marmadukegate Gets Worse

Things are getting better for Ron Artest. From the Sacramento Bee:

Since July, his four dogs have spent a total of 77 nights at the pound -- at a cost to their master of $1,942 in boarding and impound fees. ... Before this week's incident, officers had gone to the Artest home six times since July in response to callers' complaints, documents from Placer County Animal Services show. ... Socks suffered a broken leg in the auto accident. And Biscuit never was found after his last escape. Another dog was killed in his yard, Artest wrote in an e-mail to The Bee.

These poor pups have a better chance of surviving lunch hour in Chinatown than chez Ron-Ron.

I understand a puppy getting lost. That's when you put up signs and ads in the paper, and you go knocking on some neighbors' doors. You don't chalk it up to "Oh, Biscuit left. That sucks." Especially when you have young children.

I understand that mountain lions in the lush hills of Placer County are dangerous. This is why you protect your pups, with an overnight pen or the like.

I understand that sh*t happens. But when it happens repeatedly, as the tales indicate, something's wrong with the owner. Ron Artest does not deserve to own animals - this is clear. Hell, he probably deserves penalties greater than a $20,000 fine (which would, by the way, be a backbreaker for most California families). Jail time? I don't know; this is particularly egregious, but the law doesn't usually send people to the clink for stuff like this.

Judging from the reaction we've heard, he will get booed tonight. That, he deserves.

I had read that as well. Good job on the tag-teaming to get it posted. The story continues to have legs. (Four to be exact)

I can't accept Artest's comments that it was the bulldog who ate everything, or the dog-sitter who didn't see the issues, especially when compounded with the previous issues. Is this something he thought he could sweep under the rug and would just "go away"?

How about we tie him up for six weeks and choose to feed him when convenient? He could go for the Manute Bol/Shawn Bradley look.

Re: Marmadukegate Gets Worse
you know that they don't sell dogs for food in chinatown, right? That was a tad irresponsible.

Artest, Artest..... if we ever sent you to a psychologist, I think your shrink would come out of it blubbering in fear and needing therapy.

Re: Eating Marmaduke in Chinatown
I'm sure TZ knows they don't serve Rover Turnover in Chinatown.

But it was darn funny when I read it, and I approve.

Re: Marmadukegate Gets Worse
What? They don't? I want my money back for that Terrier Chow Mein I ordered yesterday... Now that you mention it, it did taste perilously similar to chicken.

Silverace99, you might be funnier than TZ's comment ever will be, yet you'll never understand why.

I don't know about boos, but expect plenty of barking!

Will they be playing "Who let the dogs out" on the Arco PA system?

Re: Marmadukegate Gets Worse
Okay...flame me. I respect the right of others to be outraged, but I don't know why this story is such a big deal. We are talking about a guy who took his kids to a strip club and no one booed about that.

The Maloofs chow on beef burgers and sell thousands of hot dogs a year. Brad shoots and kills multiple animals strictly for sport. Where is the outrage? Dogs get names and doggie beds so they are special? I know there is a difference when an owner takes responsibility to care for an animal as a pet. And to take care of that pet the creature is fed what? Other animals! If a puppy escapes and is eaten by a preditor the preditor is shot. The preditor who just happened to have a house plopped in the middle of his hunting grounds by dog owners and needs to hunt or will starve. Go figure. No outrage.

He's pesky I tell ya.

Re: Marmadukegate Gets Worse
Ah, the old "there are other horrible things being ignored in the world" defense.

I hope you do understand that the behaviors you've attributed to the Maloofs and Brad Miller are legal behaviors. If Brad decides to go out and hunt an endangered species, or if the Maloofs are chowing down on human flesh, I dare say there will be an equal amount of outrage.

Re: Marmadukegate Gets Worse
Right you are, Otis. I went all out Earth Day on you guys. I'll turn off the Bill Walton sings the Grateful Dead CD now.

And your comments got me thinking about Brad hunting shot blockers and the Maloofs eating them with a bottle of Chianti. I'm somewhat okay with that as long as the main course isn't on our team. ; )
