Game 77: at Memphis
If you thought things were bad over here in Sactown, take a look at the hapless Memphis Grizzlies, for whom the playoffs were never even a twinkle in their eye. Yes, they may just have a pretty good chance at landing a Greg Oden or a Kevin Durant, but until this season is over, they're stuck with the team they have today, the one that has "led" them to a record 40 games below .500 (19-59), making the Kings 31-45 record look rather princely (note I didn't say King-like).
The Grizzlies are the worst team in the NBA, by record, period, and are a mere 45 1/2 games behind Dallas in the Southwest conference.
(Yes, Memphis is in the Southwest, you didn't know?)
But that doesn't mean they'll just roll over by any means. In the team's two previous meetings, the Kings won 115-111 at Arco, but lost 124-117 at Memphis in late January. Guess where tonight's game is being played? That's right. Memphis.
If those two games are any indication as to what to expect tonight, it'll be a high scoring duel. Tipoff is at 5 Pacific, 8 Eastern.

What precipated the rapid decline of the franchise(uhmmm.the grizz, I mean) other than injuries to Gasol?Trades?Contractitis? The same gatorade the Kings drink in the locker room at half-time?

Bud Selig is not my favorite either. He is a waste of human skin.

Re: Game 77: at Memphis
Seriously, what was more likely, that the Kings would lead 39-15, or that they would be outscored 33-14 in the second?
What's that? You don't care? oh.
Artest is keeping up his horrible shooting. He finally made a shot in the 2nd quarter, and has only 5. Garcia leads with 15.

It'd have been nice to have a huge lead like we had after the 1st quarter, but we'll take it nonetheless.
Williams and Miller both have 12, meaning the Kings have 5 in double figures.

Is this garbage time against a garbage team, or should we be fairly stoked?

Salmons is at 10 to get 6 Kings in double figures. Bibby has 25.
Kings up 108-93.
A's tied with the White Sox 0-0 with 2 outs in the top of the first. :-)

Re: Game 77: at Memphis
There is an analogy to the kings here. My point is that when teams become an upper echelon team ultimately players like to win. After all how many millions do you really need to live? Look @ a team like the spurs. Peter Holt (the owner) said he couldnt afford to pay the luxury tax therefore wouldnt overpay players. As a result SA is barely over the luxury tax despite several guys (parker manu duncan) in the middle of their contracts with increasing figures every year. I would say the Spurs are a classic example of a small market team that has made the most of it's market share. They've won championships (a certain wake forest product didnt hurt there either) and have made money. A new arena didnt help either. I might point out that people in SA didnt vote for it until after the 99 season. Of course the spurs won a championship but Tim Duncan also said that he wouldnt consider staying unless the fans voted for a new arena. I doubt that makes sense (duncan was considering orlando as a FA...they have had failing arena measure's) but then again maybe fans took it to heart. Who knows. There has been alot of back & forth about the arena. But there takes some know how too. I dont worry about the kings vs the lakers business wise. There's no point comparing. However SA to Sac? Even with more tourism available in SA there is a bigger market in Sac. I clearly dont think the maloof's have taken full advantage of it. Therefore we are stuck in the situation there in.
My point rhondda is that the yankees are the evil empire. But they've also run @ a level no team in american sports can touch. The dynasties the yankees fielded for much of the middle part of the 20th century remain unmatched. I dont hate teams for hating purposes merely amusement purposes. I put the lakers in somewhat the same category and as such they arent immune to envy/hate/disgust by fans who dont support the lakers. Besides the spankees is better than the fakers :P.

2)Who i've been arguing with on my song thread at URL Lakershaters for the past two years so for me it really is personal;
agree with your points about salaries & the analogy of SA to the SAC market, 'tho...Very well thought out, Pookeyguru (as i would expect from you)....

Re: Game 77: at Memphis
Wow the Grizzlies are really putting it into tanker mode. From a 49-33 team to a likely 19-63 team, this has got to be trying for the Grizz this season. There are no more cupcakes left.
Time to finish 32-50 for the season.
Yeah....where is Jerry West's
That being said, I'm really enjoying watching the youngsters step up. Do you think the Muss is going try to win some games with the bench stepping up to save his gig?& to make the point that complaints from the Vets shouldn't count?

Re: Game 77: at Memphis
Granted, Justin will make and has made numerous rookie mistakes in the games he's played, but the only way to get better is to get time, right? And it's a statistical improbability that anyone can burn minutes on the floor more uselessly than Poodle. At least with Williams as goalie some players somewhere in their minds will think "Am I gonna get blocked" when driving effortlessly to the rim... or at least think "Is some over-charged rookie gonna clock my @$$?"

Re: Game 77: at Memphis
Disclaimr: This isnt an argument for Muss. This is arguing that Mitchell should have very strong support for COTY. Also maybe that appearances can be deceiving and that SVG should be heavily pursued (again?).
