Game 79 - vs Golden State

"We've got a lot of guys with a lot of pride on this team -- pride in this town -- and nobody is really pleased with the situation we are in."

That's Shareef Abdur-Rahim. With wins over Utah and Memphis, and tough fights against Houston and San Antonio, the Kings on the court have proved they aren't going out like punks.

We've all been impressed with the strides Francisco Garcia and Ronnie Price and Justin Williams have made the last week or so. But I've been equally impressed with the attitudes of Mike Bibby and Brad Miller.

Geoff Petrie tried his damnedest to move Bibby at the deadline. If Petrie could move Miller, he would in a second. Neither player could remotely be considered 'the future of the Kings' and next year's starting lineup could realistically be without both.

Yet with the kids running the floor and the team running out the season, Mike Bibby and Brad Miller have been courtside, clapping harder and cheering louder than anyone not named Sign Lady. Price and Williams - the splintered-ass hype guys most of the season - have replaced Bibby and Miller on the floor, and Bibby and Miller have replaced the kids as the cheerleading section. It's been beyond refreshing to see Bibby smiling after a crazy Garcia block or see Miller shout encouragement after a Williams putback.

Pride is all that's left, and it's great to see the Kings still have it.

Four games left, every single one against a team playing for their postseason lives. The pride's in place, which means this could be a fun four games.

Don't forget: Eric Musselman isn't conceding this game. Last summer, he promised to haunt the Warriors; that has not happened. (Unless he doorbell-ditches Chris Mullin regularly, which I can totally visualize.) I guarantee he wants to kill Golden State and knock them right out of the playoffs tonight.

7 pm start. Unleash the Douby? We'll see.

This is one game where I will root for the Kings, but won't be too upset if they lose.  The Dubs need a playoff appearance, and I think they could at least make it interesting with Dallas in the first round.

Re: Game 79 - vs Golden State
Actually, I changed my mind - just went to the GSOM website and someone dropped the term "Queens" in the comments section.  Now I hope we club them harder than the last time they were in Sactown.

Re: Game 79 - vs Golden State
It's time the Warriors go down to the Kings.

We'll be at A's/Yankees tonight, and out of the game threads, but pulling for the purple and black in a big way, just like we do every game. May Douby and Justin both go for 30+ tonight!!!

Kings-obsessed. A's obsessed. More ramblings: louisgray.com

Tonight should be payback for 04, when the Villagers cost the Kings the division crown.

Re: Game 79 - vs Golden State
Just got back from the game.  I have only one question: Did somebody ask Muss to throw the game?

And, yes, there was a Douby sighting, and he was painfully, excruciatingly A-W-F-U-L. On both sides of the court.  He looks like a boy playing with men.  The guy will not make it in this league unless he grows himself an adult body.

I think that I've now had enough glimpses of Price at point guard to come to the conclusion that he's not one. He over-dribbles; he doesn't see the court; and he forces the ball constantly. He's 2 in a 1's body.  Garcia is a much better choice at running the offense.  I hope the Kings consider that next year. He sees the floor and passes extremely well. If we are lucky, maybe he can find away to be the next Doug Christie - better shooter, less of an athlete. Oh, Garcia had another nice all-around game. Reef played his butt off too.

With that said, the game was awful. No execution and no energy save for a spirited 3rd quarter. The Warriors wanted it.  The Kings showed up cuz they had to.

Re: Game 79 - vs Golden State
so are you suggesting a Pippenesque as the 3 is playing the 1 with two 2 surrounding them...  (does bj armstrong count as a 1 or a 2)

Re: Game 79 - vs Golden State
Nice recall, Dun.

I am assuming that Bibby will stick around. If that is the case, I'd rather him fill the role he did when Doug was on the team - basically a very small 2.  Of course, to make this work effectively (like the old days) we need  a decent inside presence as well. Obviously, though, this team needs a lot of pieces to get back where they were back in the good ol' days. I'm not holding my breath.

Re: Game 79 - vs Golden State
Yes....weren't we all talking on a thread last summer about the comparisons to Doug Christie & Ciscko's possibilties at the point?

& here's a thought:Could Salmons run the point occasionally & cisko & he go back & forth on the 3-spot?Could make it confusing for opponents....

Re: Game 79 - vs Golden State
so much of this team's future will be decided by those ping pong balls on may 22...not just what player we get thru the draft but where teams fall and what moves they make accordingly..everything until then is pure speculation (unless you know how the lottery will fall then)

Thats my take and im sticking to it....despite all the trade speculation & other crikeyness that may crop up between now & then....
