Van Gundy Will Not Coach the Pacers
Indiana wanted to take Stan Van Gundy to the dance, and Stan Van Gundy thought about it. Then, Stan Van Gundy said no.
But why?
Did Stan Van Gundy find a more handsome suitor? Did Stan Van Gundy realize Indiana was an empty pair of slacks, a directionless boy without a clue about his future? Did Stan Van Gundy decide to blow the dance and hang out with his newly single sist-- err, brother?
He's not going with Charlotte -- we know that much. Charlotte asked Sam Vincent, and Sam Vincent said yes. Maybe Stan Van Gundy is waiting for Orlando to ask him? That'd be a cute pair.
Maybe Sacramento will take the opportunity to make their move... if they don't want to keep waiting on Terry Porter and Detroit to break up.
Ah, spring.

Honestly I like SVG and would not be philosophically opposed. However i've been under the impression that the kings would look for a guy similar to Scott Brooks, Elston Turner and Terry Porter who have former playing experience and preach both ends of the court. SVG does all of that except 1 thing. He never played in the NBA. Not saying that disqualifies him or anything. He's a great coach in many ways that never showed up. Pat Riley handed him a snake pit that first year and he ended up turning everybody around. The reason I think he's such a strong candidate now is how he handled his exit from Miami. He handled it much better than I would have. Fans may not care but owners very much do. They know when a guy is getting screwed (or they think they do) and like to see how a guy is graceful in a job that pressure doesn't even begin to describe what it entails.

Nice pull of Abdelnaby.
My memories include:
Terry Tyler hitting a late jumper against the Nets in the old house, earning free Whoppers for 10,333 manic fans.
Never giving up on Joe Kleine, until they traded him to Boston for Greg Kite, then never giving up on Greg Kite!
17,017 fans yelling for Gregg Lukenbill to "JUMP! JUMP! JUMP!" while trying to fix a leak in the roof during a game against Philly.
These are the memories that will help me through these lean times.

Speaking of Terry Tyler(talk about a Jerry Reynolds blast from the past) that means you've been a fan well the whole time. RB's suicide must haunt you (it haunt's me and i've never seen any clip of his playing). Bobby Hurley's accident haunts me still and I can guarantee I saw him play at duke and after the accident. I'm still ashamed I didn't get why Bobby wasn't playing that well. I didn't get it back then.
I remember being confused as to why Tyus Edney only played a couple seasons for the team. That is still 1 of the greater accomplishment's Garry St. Jean ever did. Getting those team's to 39 wins with the PG's the kings had. Not knocking Spud but there was a reason they only won 39 games. He was better than anything outside of Danny Ainge and Reggie Theus up to that point. Which is saying alot. I'll never forget how clutch Tyus was for the team down the stretch of the 96 season either. He meant more to the team than many fans remember. Man im getting all weepy eyed remembering the mediocre franchise of my youth. Boy has things changed in 10 years lol.

I've seen the tragedy of Ricky Berry and Booby Hurley, and the travesty of Dick Motta and Anthony Bonner's jump shot. And now I have passed this passion on to my daughter, a birth defect of sorts, a scarlet letter that she will carry with her for the rest of her life (or at least until Bibby gets traded).

I've got a long post commerating some of the things that has happened. 20 best things 20 worst things that stuff. I would always appreciate your perspective on it. You have much more than I do and any insight would be always appreciated.
