DraftExpress: Thornton, Brewer Worked Out Poorly For Kings

DraftExpress has some nuggets on rumored Sacramento leanings:

The Kings would like to see Spencer Hawes here, but if he goes #7 as many people are speculating, then Yi Jianlian would definitely be a solid option. Jeff Green or Julian Wright would also get consideration. Al Thornton should get a look, but he worked out extremely poorly in Sacramento, as did Corey Brewer.

As we've said before, Geoff Petrie is a guy who relies heavily on private workouts. Brewer won't be around anyways. If Thornton really had a bad workout, that hurts the chances of him landing in Sactown a lot.

Re: DraftExpress: Thornton Worked Out Poorly
Maybe Thornton worked out poorly on purpose so he wouldn't have to go "lowly" Sactown.

Could we be becoming that city that nobody wants to go to again? Where's the next Vlade going to come from??

Re: DraftExpress: Thornton, Brewer Worked Out Poor

Re: DraftExpress: ThorntonWorked Out Poorly
Oh? I would NOT at ALL be surprised we picked Spencer Hawes at #10. I can hear it now:

"And with the 10th pick in the 2007, NBA draft...the Sacramento Kings select - Spencer Hawes. Cenrer, Washington.

Re: DraftExpress: ThorntonWorked Out Poorly
And if you hear that; you will hear:

"A Utah man (apparently a Sacramento Kings fan) was seen and heard falling from the Burj Dubai, apparently distraught and depressed over the Kings' selection of Spencer Hawes last June..."

Re: DraftExpress: ThorntonWorked Out Poorly
I was at the Philly game years and years ago when the roof was leaking at ARCO and Greg Lukenbill ventured into the rafters to fix the leak and everyone began chanting "Jump!  Jump! Jump!"  I pray the same fate does not befall you come 6/28.

Re: DraftExpress
You guys really think that one poor season has put us back into "lowly" status?  I respectfully disagree.  A coach like Brown doesn't make noise about a place if it is truly lowly.  Besides that, players know the reputation of Sacramento fans and the King's management, (which despite a tough year is still considered first rate around the league).

If we have several seasons running where we suck then I think it might be appropriate to put us back into the "lowly" category.

People are as quick to jump off a bandwagon as they are to jump on one.  I am certainly not saying we are a playoff team next year, but given the natural cycle of professional sports lets give the management a chance before we start assigning it and the team to the lowest levels of Dante's inferno.

Great point and I totally agree with it. It's 1 thing to be impatient about a very nauseauting coaching search. It's quite another to be impatient over a group of players that probably won't rise to the elite immediately. Rather looking to the past let's look towards the future I think. Figure out what particular area's the team can exploit and take advantage of as the league moves forward. 9 years ago it was trades and draft picks and free agency. Oh wait.........

Re: DraftExpress
What, he needs the money? (Not!)  Or are you simply saying he's just a coaching junkie whose gotta get his fix? (Which might be true - I don't know the guy.)

Re: DraftExpress
Who says we are lowly? I never said that. I said "MAYBE" he worked out poorly because he thought we are lowly. Not "PROBABLY" worked out poorly because he thought we are lowly. And I am saying HE thinks we are lowly.

Anyways, it's kind of a joke. We hire Musselman due to the Maloofs wanting to take charge and be the basketball coach gurus. Then thier pick-up Artest goes mental during the year and we lose the most games we have lost in almost 10 years. We fire our new coach after he has a dismal year and gets a DUI. We want Van Gundy yet he would rather coach for Orlando. For good reasons - but still. Petrie is said to be given full reign to hire WHOEVER he wants yet now we hear that he wants Scott Brooks yesterday but the Maloofs are not so thrilled about him so in comes Shaw and Theus for second interviews.

To make it back to the Western Finals we may need a great trade, a great free agent signing and a great draft pick. Just like 9 or so years ago.

I can see why a player may THINK we are lowly at this point. No player comes to a team for it's fans.

Re: DraftExpress
True.  Although I think other variables can and do play a role - especially as a player gets older.

Re: DraftExpress: Thornton, Brewer Worked Out Poor
Draftexpress says that the Wolves are very high on Hawes...I pray they take him with the 7th so there isn't any chance the Kings take him. What's the deal with Justin Williams? He needs to get resigned ASAP.

Re: DraftExpress: Thornton, Brewer Worked Out Poor
Can't resign any FA's until July 15th homes. Best be patient on that front. This is going to be an interesting summer for 30 teams. More than most.

Re: DraftExpress: Thornton, Brewer Worked Out Poor
i whole heartedly agree with you about resigning justin williams asap.  but i think you are a little harsh on hawes.  he isn't my favorite player in the draft, but i think that if the likes of yi, brewer, green, j. wright are all gone, then the best option is hawes at the ten.  although i really want an athletic big who has long arms, can jump, block shots, and throw down thundering jams, and rebound (sean williams) having another vlade or brad won't be the worst thing in the world (vlade and brad were good once upon a time).
when will the Kenny Thomas Reign of Terror end?!!??

Re: DraftExpress: Thornton, Brewer Worked Out Poor
Let me know when Bill Russell is entering the draft. Or Bill Walton. He's probably a more accurate description.

Re: DraftExpress: Thornton, Brewer Worked Out
Both Brewer and Thornton worked out poorly. I wonder if it's just simply because they are both overhyed and not nearly as good as people think they are.

Me included. Especially Brewer. I could be wrong though.

Re: DraftExpress: Thornton, Brewer Worked Out Poor
Hey can does anyone have access to Chad Ford's latest mock draft? Any posts or info about this would be appreciated.

Re: DraftExpress: Thornton, Brewer Worked Out Poor
In Ford's Mock Draft 4.0, he has the Kings snapping up Hawes at #10...assuming that Yi, Noah, and Green are already off the board at that point.

Sounds about right to me.  Kings need size, size, size...I think Noah would actually be the best choice for them, since he is such a fantastic rebounder and interior passer, but the chances of his sliding to the 10 spot are nil.

Re: DraftExpress: Thornton, Brewer
Petrie almost NEVER drafts for need. I think he will continue this trend. I say he picks the best available player.
