Is This a Blessing in Disguise?

Who knows who will coach the Kings next? No one. So to record in permanent form the lasting effects of this bizarre coaching search would be premature.

But at least one league insider I've been talking to thinks this is good for the Kings. He says Stan Van Gundy is a 'grinder' -- a coach who runs his players very ragged. That works on young, impressionable guys. Not the case with veterans. And in case you haven't noticed, this team is pretty damn full of veterans.

The insider thinks Kurt Rambis is a better fit for this roster, though Van Gundy might be the better coach. Rambis is described as someone who can relate to players, but also is a disciplined guy.

Like I said, we won't know how this all shakes out until, well, it shakes out.

Re: Is This a Blessing in Disguise?
This could very well be true TZ, but I have some reservations about hiring a (more or less) lifelong Laker.

Re: Is This a Blessing in Disguise?
I hate the Lakers as much as the next guy, but Rambis has been learning from Phil Jackson for years and is the top assistant.

Honestly, should we really continue to hold the Lakers' thing over his head?  He very well could become a great coach in Sacramento.

Re: Is This a Blessing in Disguise?
Agreed, bball.  Vlade was a Laker, or do we not count that against him because it was before the rivalry really grew legs?  And if Rambis were the right guy, what better way to beat the Lakers than with one of their own at the helm?

Re: Is This a Blessing in Disguise?
We all hate the Lakers but if there is a good head coach, GM or whatever that the Lakers have then u gotta consider it.

The Lakers are a terrific organization historicallly and there is a reason why people usually prefer to go to LA rather than a small market city.

I like Kurt Rambis to be our head coach/

Re: Is This a Blessing in Disguise?
Wouldn't surprise me, especially given that Pat Riley is the same way.

Re: Is This a Blessing in Disguise?
Jeff Van Gundy is like Stan in that way also. So is Pat Riley as Carl points out. The difference is that Pat Riley coached Magic,Worthy,Kareem,Ewing and Zo. I guess that makes Riles a genius eh? I think not.

As far as Rambis is concerned more anaylsis of that 1999 season he did coach might want to be examined. It was said that Phil made Shaq realize that playing defense was NECESSARY. Phil made Shaq realize it? Jeesh didn't seem like it 2 years later. Anyway Rambis doesn't bother me because frankly at this point I'm not sure without a total roster overhaul Red Auerback could coach this team to 40 wins next season.

Re: Is This a Blessing in Disguise?
I liked stan because he related to players well and brought a defensive mindset. He was EVERYTHING Petrie ever wanted.
