Bibby and the Cavs...

http://www.sacbee.com/351/story/270917.html
Looks like the Bibby/Cavs talks may be on again...
In this particular case, the supposed deal is dead as the Spurs have pulled the trigger on another deal with the Rockets, according to ESPN.
I really don't see Gooden as anything different than Thomas or 'Reef other than he is younger. But at least Petrie seems to be kicking over rocks in search of a deal.

Re: Bibby and the Cavs...
I dont think Mike is going to the Cavs. Unless Cleveland can replace Gooden/Varejao with other players it has. I just don't see it.

Re: Bibby and the Cavs...
i think you are right about that.  especially the way gibson lit it up those few games in the playoffs.  i think if he starts slow and flames out by the all-star game, you could see and in season trade.

Re: Bibby and the Cavs...
OK, so Mo Williams has re-signed with the Bucks and it looks like Steve Blake is going to Portland. This leaves Miami still looking for a PG. They will give Steve Francis a sniff. My question is that if the Kings were offered J-Will and Doleac (both expiring contracts) for Bibby, would you pull the trigger? Would you insist on Dorell Wright, too? Or future draft picks? Would you insist on including K9 (woof!) for Haslem, too?

Re: Bibby and the Cavs...
I'd take toine for Kenny. And definitely Dorell Wright too.

Re: Bibby and the Cavs...
Again, just spitballing here...
Would you rather have Gooden and Jones (and their contracts) or Ratliff (expiring) and Rondo (team option)?

Re: Bibby and the Cavs...
I wonder if other GM's have devauled Bibby and Artest because they feel like we have to move them?

If that's the case we may have to wait until the trade deadline and someone gets desparate (most likely the Heat & Cavs).  I find it weird that the talks have been as tame as they are, it could just be Geoff putting up a smokescreen or what not, but I thought we would have more interest in the two ballhogs then we have had.

Re: Bibby and the Cavs...
I've noticed that the recent trend here is to espouse several things.

Trading Artest seems to need to happen sooner or later. Trading the entire front line can also be included in this (realistic or not).

Trading Bibby can wait until his value returns is another common point made in threads lately.

Trading Artest is going to be difficult for Petrie because he insists on getting value for what he trades. I think it's a mistake to not dump Artest on the Knicks even if you don't get David Lee at some point. If Petrie gets stared down it can't hurt potentially in more GM's willing to do deals with him in the future.

Trading Bibby is one of those either or deals. Either you do it or you dont but trading him now doesn't bring much benefit. Down the road there could be some benefit though. I think Petrie wants to wait to deal Bibby so he can make sure he has the value he wants for him. Otherwise he could have dealt him in February to Cleveland.

I find it weird that the talks have been as tame as they are, it could just be Geoff putting up a smokescreen or what not, but I thought we would have more interest in the two ballhogs then we have had.
There was so much buildup to trading this summer that when it didn't happen it's kinda taken some by surprise. GM's are in this business to win ,AND NOT/ make a rash move to appease fans in the moment. McHale will be almost unwilling to deal with KG for an extremely too high price. As long as KG dangles on the market that will hurt any value that Bibby/Artest has only because teams will look to do whatever it takes to get KG if only for a season or two at the most.

Re: Bibby and the Cavs...
bibby wont be going to cavs. cavs dont want to part with varejao. kings want varejao. gooden to bibby trade would have ended last february, but kings insist on bringing varejao into sactown. but i know, cavs desperately need a pg and bibby would fit to their team.
