NBA Involved in Game-Fixing Investigation

In case you haven't heard: the FBI is investigating an NBA referee for alleged point-shaving. If it's as widespread as stated and true, this will rock the NBA very, very hard.

The first thing that popped into my head from the Kings' perspective (besides Game 6, chortle) was that odd Denver game in April. Follow the link and read the strange details concerning the end of that game. For the record, the referees for that game were Gary Zielinski, Joe DeRosa and Marc Davis.

This crap is seriously depressing.

UPDATE: It's Tim Donaghy.

Re: NBA Involved in Game-Fixing Investigation
Having just read that story, it reminded me of the famous college basketball point shaving scandals, and of course, the Black Sox scandals around the 1919 World Series. I do think it's a bit premature to start throwing stuff at the wall and seeing if it will stick, such as putting those three refs' names out there. It's highly likely the as of yet unnamed individual isn't one of those guys, and we should be careful in guessing...

Re: NBA Involved in Game-Fixing Investigation
Well, I might as well save the conspiracy theorists the time and energy of searching.

Honestly, we could just list every ref who worked games both of the last two seasons. They are all suspects.

Re: NBA Involved in Game-Fixing Investigation
As bad as the NBA officiating has been, this story is going to ensure that the number of conspiracy theorists is going to multiply significantly.

It's going to be a looooong season. Look for nightly complaints from every team that loses a close basketball game that feels they were "screwed" by the refs.

Re: NBA Involved in Game-Fixing Investigation
No other sport really faces the kind of scrutiny for this than basketball, even with proof of it happening in other sports.

With Crawford going off the deep end and now this, NBA ref's are really going to get put under a microscope.

This story has been out for several hours now and no one has blamed the Maloof's yet? Come on people, where's the effort?!?

Re: NBA Involved in Game-Fixing Investigation
I bet (no pun intended) it's Bob Delaney...he did go undercover and infiltrate the Mob...and doesn't he look like he'd be comfortable in Atlantic City with Bobby Bacala and Paulie Walnuts?

More importantly has anybody called Ralph Nader?

Re: NBA Involved in Game-Fixing Investigation
i think the most puzzling result of this would be if it's dick bavetta
Whether your dominating the playground, the last one to leave the gym, or your big time like Mike Bibby...

Re: NBA Involved in Game-Fixing Investigation
Bavetta takes his orders from Stern, not the mob.

These parties are not as different as you would think. :)

Re: NBA Involved in Game-Fixing Investigation
By reading the story it seems to me that not only is Price innocent but the refs too.  The only suspects are AI and Mello.
