Learning With YouTube

The Bee's Marty McNeal earns the first funny blockquote from Spencer Hawes:

Hawes said he loves Tim Duncan's low-post game. And if that doesn't work, Hawes can turn to his knowledge of Hakeem Olajuwon.

"Oh, yeah, Hakeem, I love that dude," a wide-eyed Hawes said. "I've seen that guy's game on YouTube. There is a 10-minute mix tape of him."

Hawes then broke into his impersonation of Olajuwon's baseline fade off the "Dream Shake."

"I've got to get that into my game," Hawes said. "And that up-and-under he used on David Robinson."

Hakeem retired, what, seven years ago? And all our new center has seen from him is in a YouTube mixtape? I'm still in my mid-20s, and this makes me feel old.

And this would be the YouTube highlight in question. How many of those blocks you think we'll see Shawes pull off?

Re: Learning With YouTube
That you're in your mid 20's makes this 30-year-old check for gray hair. I'm old enough to remember when Akeem changed his name to Hakeem...

Re: Learning With YouTube
And I was there when Lew Alcindor changed his name to Kareem Abdul Jabbar. I was a big Alcindor fan (followed him from UCLA to Milwaukee) and I was very confused when I picked up the Bee, looked in the Bucks box score and Alcindor was gone but this Jabbar guy (I though it was pronounced "Jabber") was filling it up. Pre-internet, pre-ESPN, what's a 12 year old boy to do? You had to count on the Bee for your news (YIKES!).
Old? You pups are still wet behind the ears. TZ, when do I get my STR senior discount card?

Re: Learning With YouTube
I'd like to see Hawes wear the vintage Olajuwon goggles, I think that'd immediately bring more cred to his game.

Re: Learning With YouTube
Why didn't Hawes comment on Hakeem's great defense? he does not plan to do any of that in the nba? and Jay Z sucks.

Re: Learning With YouTube
Man that ball fake on Bradley was sick and that crossover on Ewing should be illegal for a 7 footer.  He was a classy player but I remember a game he lost his cool on Greg Kite back when he played center for us bookshelved between Tizzy and the big dog Antoine Carr.  He gave Greg the the "dream shake" knuckle sandwich between the eyes and got ejected from the game.  The Kings still weren't able to beat the Rockets.
Damn you Robert Horry!!!
