Over at Ballhype, I mapped out various comparative graphs based on team data from 2006-07. It actually caused me to defend Eric Musselman. Gulp. Check it out.

(Also, you'll notice Sacramento was one of the faster-paced teams in the league. Weird, huh? They didn't seem too fast when we were watching them...)

Really, that's an awesome read. It must of taken a lot of time, unless you just make this stuff up like I do. Thanks for the effort!

Here's something your charts don't show...

Discipline down the stretch.

How many times have the Kings had a huge lead at any point in the fourth quarter and either blow it and make the game close and more often than not, lose a heart breaker.

The Kings throughout the season have yet to master the art of closing games out and this was a big reason for their 33-49 record. And also not to mention the less than stellar 0-5 overtime record.

Time to blow 'em up, boyz.

Amen brother!!!  As has been said here many times, the Kings were in virtually every game last year and could have easily had a much better record if not for falling apart at the end of nearly every close game. I will always believe that had to do with coaching and the impact it can have on team discipline. However, it didn't help that our team did/does not have a "closer." (No, Kevin Martin is not yet that guy...and he may never be unless he gets much more confident, assertive, and aggressive.)

K-Mart's growth is indeed at least half of it, Kusian. But we also have to figure out a way to pry the ball out of Ron-Ron's hands in the last two minutes. He's like the "Raid Ball Motel" - Balls check in but they don't check out.

I seem to recall Mike (icewater in the veins at crunchtime) Bibby, having a less than stellar effort down the stretch of many games. Maybe that was due to the fact that the opposition knew that if he had the ball he would shoot it. I actually recall Ron passing up a shot to feed it to Reef for a three. Can anyone else make that claim?

Maybe it is just easier to point a finger at Ron.

I don't think that many people in the NBA can make the claim that they passed to 'Reef for a three, period. That does not change the fact that on many occasions with the game in the balance, Ron-Ron got the ball, lowered his head, and made an ill fated attempt to force the action. As a team the Kings did not trust each other and/or their offensive sets with the game on the line. More often than not the ball was in Artest's hands when that happened. He and Bibby were the self proclaimed leaders of an under achieiving team. That's not pointing an easy finger. That is a fact that pertains to the 2006-07 Sacramento Kings.

Can anyone say that passing Reef the ball for a game deciding three pointer was a very good idea?

Ron's "I want to be a difference maker" attitude is better than the "if I don't start I can't contribute" Poodle mentality or the "I'm just here," attitude Mike Bibby expressed at the end of a game last year, But Ron needs to have that desire channeled. I hope Theus figures out how to do that.

Cool charts btw.  If I am reading them correctly were we tops in the league in most fouls drawn?  If so that is a promising statistic.  We all know Kmart gets to the line but it didn't seem like anyone else did.

Perhaps the Kings were "fast-paced" in the sense that the first or second person to touch the ball on any given possession usually ended up taking the shot?

being fast-paced is completly different than actually executing and taking quality shots. that is why they seemed so slow

The Kings played at a relatively "fast" pace because Ron "Superstar" Artest would always jack up a shot 10 seconds into the shot-clock. Bibby was a big culprit of this too.
He can shoot, and he looks great in a suit. Hey, everybody - It's REGGIE TIME!
