Another Artest-Knicks Rumor
From Chris Sheridan's column on stars possibly on the move:
Balkman's my second favorite Knick, a Gerald Wallace clone (though with fewer offensive instincts, if you can believe it). And Nate Robinson's basically Quincy Douby - six inches + hops + crystal meth, someone I don't think will ever be a legitimate NBA starter.
If the deal would assure Douby's future role as a shooting guard and facilitate an attempt to go big on a +Beno free agent point guard (cough, Jose Calderon, cough)... then we just might have a deal.

What a joke,
Artest just got a nice break and should be fresh for a stretch run. Petrie will do right by us on this one.

Yeah
Kendrick Perkins, aka the expiring contract of notoriety, is going to go where, exactly? The wolves will want youth/talent/picks for the right of the expiring contract - isn't the point of amassing cap space so that you can get those three items? Naaah, he's staying put till the end of the season.
If this were a perfect world, we'd get Balkman and Lee for Artest, and Bibby will turn into cap space and draft picks, which will result in Calderon and a beastly center who undeservedly falls low into the draft.

Rumors
Sheridan is like the National Enquirer of the sports world. Rumor, innuendo, and very little of substance.
I'd like him better if he came out with a story about alien abductions. Maybe a sure-fire way to lose 30 pounds overnight. Three headed baby, anyone?

Well...
Kings-Suns-Cavs deal. Bibby to Cleveland, the cheaper and -1 year Hughes contract and the 1 year Newble contract to the Suns, and the Suns send Stoudemire to us.
Maybe in the off-season trade Kenny Thomas for the Special Olympics track and field bronze medalist and we're ready to make a run for the championship.
Yeah, I know, no way would the Special Olympics make that trade...

Trade Brad
I would do a Kwame Brown and some sort of an asset (#1 pick) for Brad Miller deal right now. Get expiring contract, continue building with an asset and then let Spencer develop.

Change your perseption
Not only would the Kings save $1.5M this year (plus over $11M & $12M the next two years, respectively), but they would also get a piece back as proposed above.
This would push up the rebuild, giving the Kings some cap space to play with next year (Calderon seems to be the hot name today), in addition to whatever piece we got with KBEC.
If that doesn't help, I don't know what else to tell you.
