GAME 40 vs New Jersey, Preview & Game Thread

I'd do my typical pregame shenanigans, but Kelly Dwyer picked Kings-Nets for his nightly "Game to pay attention to," and I'd offer little more. Check it out.

Go Kings. Four games under .500 or bust.

Not that this has anything to do with todays game
Notice the Celtics game, and the latest blame recieved and bad media they've gotten for the recent trash-talking incidents... glad to see that the white-knights image is slowly fading off. Puts our little shenanigans with Boston in perspective. Which is great, I was really starting to despise everyone-loving-the-celtics. Everyone's supposed to hate the Celtics.

Also, TZ -love the commenting on Mikki's Trey-Treys. Haha, and KD agrees. Awesome.

Yes.& about C-Webb; further OT.
The thought of C-Webb as a Celt makes me nauseous. Go to Detroit; & if they'll let you ride the pine, enjoy it.Remember Malone! Club faker is not the answer for that ring!

Coming as one
The teams in coming together. We're as healthy as we'll ever be. Mike, Kevin and Ron all looked solid in the road trip. I think I will do the honors and pull out the 'ol...

"GUARANTEED WIN NIGHT AT ARCO ARENA"!!! I feel good about this one for our beloved 18-22 Sacramento Kings.

This one is booked before it starts and going down to the LA will be just like 'ol times.

Bounce from the team
KevMart put up a couple bricks, Salmons has a short leash, but Beno is in the game playing nice.

Assist to Garcia for the threeeeeeeeeeeeee.

(BTW, my apologies for the over-enthusiasm. I don't get to see many kigns game, due to my area and POS cable-provider).

Beno is shredding the lane. Mind, the nets don't have much to stop guards other than Sean Williams (who swatted the shizzznuts out of Martin alread). Garcia hustling on defense - off the bench. Sweeeeeet.

Nice 1st quarter as the Nets just look completely out of sorts in that quarter. I think the Nets need to be rebuilt like the Kings. But after 1, things are looking sweet for the playas from Sactown

It's the Kings rotation model
Keep at least one or two key players injured at all times so no one fights over minutes.

Kings are playing great. I think part of it might be that they capitalized early on the Nets' TOs in the first quarter and just started stomping 'em. But they have played very well.

According to the NBA.com announcers
We have a great starting five at every position. Artest is one of the top 25 players in the NBA (I think they called him a monster.) And we shouldn't trade anyone unless we get a stellar offer. And they have credibility. Right? Right? Anyone????

i was hinting at that. either way they should get the W. i was just saying they have the ability to beat someone down now. as good as it was to watch the backups work hard, they still led the league in TOs.
but i think this team goes and stops with brad. fat brad forced everyone to have to play different. slim brad is that guy who plays like vlade.

aree with you.. Bibby is our best PG (whether or not you consider him to even be one...he is). And Beno is a hell of a player to have back him up off the bench..I have no idea why the hell everyone wants to write him off

I'll say it again...We gotta keep them BOTH unless we get a GREAT offer!! (Not those Bullsh*t deals that were talked about in TZ's post earlier)

still can
We can still make the playoffs in the west. teams that look like they can collapse include:

Lakers - Bynum's out for 8 weeks. Ariza's out for 8 weeks. Kwame sucks. When Bynum comes back, there will be a readjustment period. And who knows if he will come back playing at the same level.

Portland - Yeah, they look good. But they're the youngest team in the NBA. They may run out of gas from so many youngsters not used to all the minutes and games, or they may not be able to deal with the end of season pressure due to lack of experience.

Golden State - Just a hunch.

Houston - T-Mac wants to sit out the All Star game. He's pretty banged up. And Houston is just underachieving.

Once we capture the 8th seed, hopefully we'll get lucky and face a number 1 seeded New Orleans Hornets. Because we all know what Peja does in the playoffs!

PS - Kfan, no jinx tonight! Go Kings.

Ron Artest
34 minutes, 9 of 14 from the field, 2-2 from 3-point range, 7 of 10 from the line, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals, 2 blocks. Oh, yeah, 3 turnovers and 1 personal foul.

In addition, with help from his "eternal 8th place" sidekicks, he held the NBA's seventh leading scorer to 18 points, with most of those coming long after the outcome was no longer in doubt.

Yep, it's all too clear to me why nine of 10 Kings "fans" want to get rid of this guy.

by coolcatreportdotcom on Jan 22, 2008 9:54 PM PST reply actions

Are you ready
to pony up $50+ million for the guy? Because that is the question. Not if Ron is a talent - he is. Not if Ron can take over a game - he can. But do you have the confidence to invest your future in him? That is the $50+ million question.

Rashard Lewis signed a $120 million deal last year. Don't think Ron can get half that?

There is the problem of his heavy perimeter shooting. Mostly section, and I know you know this, but the Magic proved how stupid a team could be bidding for a guy.

Good Game
Tonight was great.  The only thing better than a dominant Kings win, is a dominant win that makes Laker fans stop talking sh*t, and sound a little scared.

I'll be at tomorrow nights game, two rows behind the Kings bench.  I'll try to post as much as I can during the game, but the wife doesn't like too many appearances from the iPhone.  I'll be there a few hours early to watch the shoot around and talk to players (get pathetic autographs), so I hope for a good story or two.  A detailed diary will follow.

Great game tonight, and it allowed tons of rest for the starters for tomorrow against the Clippers.  Go Kings, lets make a run at .500.

Just run the W-L record with him, without him
Funny, that wasn't "the question" over the weekend when Artest was taken to the woodshed. Do I need to refresh your memory with some outtakes?

Hey, if Ron can get $120 million, I wish him the best. But I don't think it will happen.

We can deal with that "invest your future in him" question in a few weeks, and we'll probably still be talking about it at the end of the season when the Kings hopefully are making a run for the playoffs.

No teams in the West really look dominant this year. Could be some surprises in store for the naysayers (although some might call them realists).

That's fine. I'll play Impossible Playoff Quest, you play Break Up the Band, and we'll see what happens. For now I am just going to enjoy this crew coming together and see if it can last.

by coolcatreportdotcom on Jan 22, 2008 10:56 PM PST reply actions

I don't recall ever
saying "break up the band." I have never proposed that we just give Ron away - trade him only if you can get something that can be utilized in building for the future. Where Ron is concerned I am focused on one thing and one thing only - is he worth the physical and emotional price tag of a long term contract, which he will command once he opts out at the end of the season. And if you don't believe that he is going to opt out, please let me know as I would like to sell you my share of the "I" Street Bridge.

And to refresh your memory, coolcat, my question was "Keep Ron?" Plain and simple.

I'll close with this as you seem to be confused with my point of view as it pertains to Ron Artest - AT THIS POINT IN TIME I DO NOT FEEL RON ARTEST IS WORTH THE RISK OF A LONG TERM CONTRACT. This will be my "Ron Artest response" until further notice.

Keep Ron
Ron will probably opt out, the offers won't be there, he'll opt back in. I don't think we should consider moving him now unless the Kings unravel in the next few weeks and Ron is one of the way reasons why that happens.

You said Ron was a "mercurial, disruptive headache
.. an exceptionally gifted and more versatile Bruce Bowen."

Others on the thread were even more dismissive:

"The Kings need to trade this moron ASAP."

"Artest will never be great because he doesn't make the players around him better. If anything, he makes them worse."

"Ticking time bomb."

"Trading Artest will be addition by subtraction."

"As much a liability as any of the other Kings on the defensive end."

"A square peg for a round hole."

"Expendable.

"His off-court insanity speaks for itself."

"He should be someone else's problem."

"As far as team impact goes, I don't think he's that significant."

"A really-good-but-too-self-involved-player-with-a-dangerous-history-and-is-asking-to-be-overpaid. Artest can win wih his defense, but chooses to lose with his offense."

Gotta Love Your Sacramento Kings!
Forget all the trade talk for a moment. What I liked tonight was the unselfishness of play, the spreading of the floor on offense...

& the defense. The traps, the rotations executed; & speaking of Ronnie...he had what? 5 steals?

That kind of defense generates offense. Can he be the team player that is needed for this  team going forward? Hell if I know.

But it's fun to see ALL the players that get minutes playing hard& listening to the coach. Quite refreshing.& it gives me good ideas for version 3 of my song.
