It looks like the whole youth movement thing is what kept Kevin Martin on the bench so long last night. I fail to understand how the team is served by having its youngest shooting guard on the bench just because he's a starter. Unless you're going to play Quincy Douby at the two -- which you didn't for one second last night -- there's little need to sit Martin. He is part of your youth movement! Brad Miller? Not so much. (Though I understand why it's valuable to play Spencer Hawes and Miller together a little.)
Quote of the century from Ron Artest: "They were trying to bargain shop. They were trying to get government cheese, and I'm Kraft." What's worse: Eduaruo Najera as WIC cheese, or that Ron-Ron considers Kraft to be good cheese? We need to get our boy a gift certificate to The Melting Pot.
Gerald Wallace was unconscious for 13 minutes the other night. He suffered amnesia and will be out a few weeks.
Kevin Johnson recieved the John R. Wooden Lifetime Achievement Award over the weekend.

I sure hope Wallace...

comes back OK. It really pained me to see what happened to him. I could not watch as he lay on the floor and had to change the channel. He's always been one of my favorite players and wish he would have remained a King but his career was almost ruined by Adelman. I guess the best thing that ever happened to him was getting taken by Charlotte in the expansion draft.

I can't see any fault in Mikki. It did not look like he threw any elbows. Just a freak occurrence.

He didn't help himself as much here

His fans don't realize his commitment to the game rose in Charlotte. If he had the same commitment as a younger player NOT keeping him would be a surefire mistake.

Now that having been said, it was a tad frightening to see the guy go down. I'm glad he's not dead, because Jerry kept mentioning he didn't move for like 5 minutes, and that he's only got a concussion and not some spinal paralysis or some such. I hope he returns and continues his excellent season.

Watching G-Dub suffer this

This was Wallace's fourth concussion since joining the Bobcats 3 1/2 years ago. A team source estimated Wallace was unconscious for about 13 minutes.

4 concussions is alot to suffer. I hope it's his last.

Ahem,

I was a fan when he played in Sac and recognized that he needed more work (3-Will, anyone?). Maybe the Kings did him a favor by exposing him in the expansion draft by showing him that he was both expendable here and desirable to other teams. (At the time, I wanted the Kings to leave Webber unprotected so we could keep Gerald, no way would a startup team have taken on Webber's contract and he was beginning to slide, but I digress.) Being exposed in the draft and being picked probably jolted him into working harder so that's a plus, but I hate that he's hurt so much.

I am always happy for Gerald to do well (except against the Kings) and am following the news about more tests being necessary following this injury. That's way too many concussions and I hope he will be better than okay. I don't want to see this injury end his career, and I don't want him to end up like Ali, Tyson, or too many football players to mention when his career is over. It's crazy that he's had this many concussions in 3 1/2 years.

I wish him the best, always.

I think this quote is revealing

But if we didn't do that, we definitely could've beat this team ... . It's tough. I'm not going to sit here and lie to you and tell you it's not."

There isn't a better player when it comes to honesty then Ron Artest. (Of course there is the challenge of defining what's honest coming out of Artest's mouth.) This also is another point: you can't have a youth movement with a 500 team with veterans still driving the engine of that 500 team. This is, in a stupid perverse way, an argument for dumping every veteran by the summer.

Interesting trivia

Johnson was the seventh selection overall in the 1987 draft. What team picked him?

Talk about a bad moment for a hometown team. Passing over a young superstar talent who WANTED to play there. Not quite Atlanta passing up Chris Paul (who isn't a homegrown talent) but it is high up there.

Kings had Reggie Theus and

later traded Reggie for the pick that became Ricky Berry. That's entirely understandable. What's not understandable is why you would pick Kenny Smith over Kevin Johnson.

I know....

From a very very close inside source who was in the war-room the day of the draft that year that when the topic of whether or not to draft Johnson came up.... The Legendary Bill Russell (who I respect and have gottan to know quite well over the years) responded "I like the kid, but he'll never be more than a home-town boy. He'll never be able to help our team"

Imagine what could have been had Johnson ran the 1 for his hometown squad.

Sorry Barnes....but Johnson is and will likely be "Sactown's Finest" for a long time-

Concussions are serious...

and that's especially true when you're unconcious for 13 minutes!

I'm no doctor but as I understand it, when a person suffers a concussion the odds are generally increased that he or she can suffer another one. And each new recurrence can be triggered by progressively less impact. Have enough of them and you risk cumulative brain damage.

That many concussions over the past few years has to be considered a career threatening situation for Gerald Wallace, (as it was for Troy Aikman, just to name one well-known example) which is a real bummer. I always loved seeing Gerald get up and down the court and Arco with total abandon.

Wallace

has missed 20% of his games since going to Charlotte. This can be attributed to his high flying, hard play and just plain bad luck. It's a shame. Give him back a chunk of those missed games and perhaps he would have developed into an all star by now.

I had really hoped that Mike would benefit by the change in scenery. It could still happen, but not tonight. They do have a tough schedule following the trade but it could be another Petrie move trading a beloved player at the best time.
