hard to tell from the footage...
but did Shawes start the fast-break with a block?  If so, props to Udrih for letting him finish it.

Spencer Hawes Is A BEAST
He will rule you.
Beautiful block. Beautiful Dunk. Did you see the way his team reacted? Did you see the way he reacted? I'm not even sure he knew he could dunk with such authority. I'll watch this dude play anytime.

Did I mention...
Spencer Hawes is a Beast?
I love hearing the announcers. Such a great post.

Peaches
reminds me of Bania from Seinfeld - "You gotta try the soup, Jerry. It's the best in the city. The best, Jerry!"

i don't know the state of most draft picks...
but is spencer creeping his way into all-rookie honors second team?

by CrownUs93 on Mar 10, 2008 7:33 PM PDT reply actions

why?
Why the attitude?  It was a nice play on both sides of the ball.  And I don't think anybody has suggested Spencer cannot dunk as he has done so on many occassions this year.

I don't understand the Hawes haters.  The guy is going to be putting up 15 - 18 pts/game in a couple of seasons and is amazingly skilled for his youth and size. Yet,there will still be people bitching no matter how good he gets.

Sorry guys; he'll never be Greg Oden. But the odds are he's going to be pretty decent.

by Kusian on Mar 10, 2008 10:29 PM PDT up reply actions

Everyone
understands that Al Thornton would be rotting behind Artest/Salmons/Garcia right now had we drafted him instead of Hawes, right?

I think we're going to wind up being very happy that we chose this kid in a couple of years.

Apparently not
Some people haven't forgiven Petrie for the pick which most of us hated when it happened.

But, some are more open minded and willing to accept that Petrie knew what he was doing when he drafted Hawes.

Even if we hated the pick at the time.

Shawes is showing a lot of potential, whether he fulfills it or not it is up to him.

I hope he does.

-Semi reformed Shawes hater.

----

Next topic, uncharacteristically, I actually listened to KHTK tonight and Carmichael Dave was advocating Shawes' nickname as "the bulldog".  I hated it, as did CD's co-hosts.

Please give this boy a better nickname than that if Shawes isn't good enough.

God bless you, Corliss. You always played as though you knew how expensive my tickets were. -section214

My only concern--the same as always
When Hawes comes down from a dunk I cringe in fear his knee's gonna bend the wrong way. 19 years old, how many surgeries?

by NYCFan @ Sactown Royalty on Mar 11, 2008 10:02 AM PDT up reply actions

I preface this
with the fact that I don't read too much into PER 40. It's a tool, but then again so am I, so take the numbers for what they are worth -

Horford - 12.4 pts., 12.5 rebs., 1.3 blks.
Noah - 12.4 pts., 11.5 rebs., 1.3 blks.
Hawes - 15.0 pts., 10.6 rebs., 2.0 blks.

I would still rather have Horford (and maybe Noah) over Hawes, but the numbers are at least a little interesting, no?

interesting
definitely interesting stats. this shows that he's closer to being a consistent contributor than he's been given credit for. i just hate how when one player shines on this team, another one falls. and right now that's shawes shining and brad miller falling...and one more thing, can we just call hawes the politician? imagine, the polictian with the throw down! i think the name rolls pretty good. and he's came out and said that he likes debating politics. i think this would be a nickname that he would gladly accept too. any supporters for the politician?

Or the President?
A blocked shot could be a veto. An assist could be an aids package. Shoots with both hands - bipartisan.

Maybe we can draft him a VP at the 4.

well
we do have a landlord in the making at the 4! i like the president too. either one. both the politician and the president fits him.

How about "The Shaw of I slam".(don't forget that last space) Bet he'd love that one. ;p

I am
in awe of the The Shaw of I slam.

Can we shorten it to the The Shaw, knowing that the rest is there but unsaid?

That works
I also like The Shawes-shank Redemption. Not sure where I heard that, or if I just made it up.

Also a couple of weeks ago Koz was calling a game and called him "Hee-Hawes". which is either a reference to a character from It's a Wonderful Life or a reference to an old TV show.

Shaw Shaq redemption
As in Brian Shaw (the LA Lakers assistant coach) to Shaquille O'Neal.

Shock and Hawes
is awesome.  I'm not the only one who thinks so, Angela Tsai just ripped you off on the HPL without giving credit.

For the record, Koz loved it.

That's just Koz showing his age
He must have grew up with "hee-haw". Maybe it was a fav in the Koz home.
I like "the Shaw of I slam". Very catchy. Wish I had thought of it. Can I use it in the new version of my King's song Kfan in Korea?

Of course, use it at will
Not sure about the Hee-Hawes reference. Because the way he said it sounded the same as George Bailey's friend in It's a Wonderful Life, who greeted everyone by saying, "Hee-Haw".

by Kfan in Korea on Mar 11, 2008 9:14 PM PDT up reply actions

Forgot about Bailey's friend...
in "It's a wonderfull life".That could be it, who knows?& thanx for the permission, I was thinking it could be fun in the next version of the song to have a "shout out" to Sactown Royalty in the song. Who says the names of players need only be in there anyway?
