Beno Udrih = MIP?
The Rise Guys floated this idea this morning, and I must admit I had not given it any thought, nor have I seen it brought up anywhere else.
Is Beno Udrih the most improved player in the NBA this year?
As I said, I have given this no thought, but at quick glance he has improved more (statistically) than Jose Calderon, Danny Granger, Andre Iguodala or Rajon Rondo (I have not had time to canvas the entire league).
Thoughts?

He won't win
Beno is awesome
/End Martin vs. Ellis hangover from last year.
I can't pretend to know what would put Kings players back into contention for any league awards, but their current record is such that nobody on this team could win anything.
Sigh...
Brad has had a rejuvinating season (minus the last few games). Beno has been more than anticipated.
But it's still a team with a losing season. We have lots of reasons to be hopefull for the future, but no reason to expect league recognition for a few years, at least.
As always, just my opinion.
Alternatives
Peja's games are up over last year but his numbers are down. He does play for a winner, however.
Gay plays for a team that's worse than the Kings but as a player he probably has a higher profile than Beno. Gay is +9 in points to Beno's +8. They are both +2 in rebounds and + 1 in steals. Beno is +3 in assists to +1 for Gay. On a percentage basis Beno has made the larger overall jump.
As documented with Ellis and Martin, MIP is not a science. But it seems that Beno will at least merit consideration.
Two more
Chris Kaman = +6 points, +2 rebounds, +1 assist and block. Well chronicled improvement.
I believe the MIP award must go to an emerging
Might add Bynum and Faramar to your possibles.

A 3rd year player who wasn't an all-star
If one student's test scores improve from 50% to 70% and another's improve from 75% to 100%, who's the most improved?
Not saying Paul will win it, but he should be considered.

I hope you didn't drive home dude
For the record who said Beno was going to be an all-star?

Gotta hand it to ya though
Promising Future
I think Beno still has much room to improve. As this team matures, there will be better spacing and ball movement which should result in a drastic improvment in his A - TO ratio.
He has all the tools to be a top notch PG in the NBA for many years.
The latest crop
McCants = +5 pts., +2 rebs., +1 ast. Plays for a worse team than the Kings. Virtually no pub.
Calderon = +3 pts., +1 reb., +4 asts. Much smaller improvement than Beno but plays for a winner and is no longer flying under the radar.
Ellis = +3 pts., +2 reb., assists and steals slightly down. Not an impressive enough of an improvement to win the award back to back.
Bynum = +5 pts., +4 rebs., +1 asts., slightly up in blocks. He and Paul (below) are the highest profile guys on the list. But his injury may eliminate him from serious consideration.
Farmar = +5 pts., +1 reb., +1 ast. Nice improvement but statistically smaller than most of the guys on the list, and he is still a non-starter.
Paul = +4 pts., +2 asts., +1 stl., down in rebounds. Statistically a rather small improvement compared to the other guys on this list, and my bet is that he was already too good to be considered.
Thanks to everyone who has thrown out names so far. This has been very interesting and educational for me.
Hedo is eligible
I honestly wasn't sure because of what it says on the ballot. The MIP, according to the ballot's instructions, is meant to go to "an up-and-coming player" and is "not intended to be given to a player who has made a comeback.''
