GAME 59 vs Miami, Game Thread

Revenge of the Kings. I feel quite certain Sacramento will play well in this one.

This is a 6 p.m. game. Enjoy, and go Kings.

Is it too early to say that I just
don't give a rats ass about this team anymore? I'm turned off by this group again mostly because watching Artest holds no appeal.

Sigh
There is just no more things to get excited about for this team. We're in no man's land. We have no shot at a playoff spot, almost no shot at moving up in the draft. No cap space to sign major free agents and a load of bad contracts in K9, Shareef, John Salmons, Brad Miller and not to mention lobster hand.

Yeah... Let's go Kings! It's time to get revenge on the worst team in the NBA who spanked these Kings by 21!

Think you are falling into your own trap
Anyone who says anything negative about Artest or thinks K-Mart is the future of the Kings has to be a "hater" or have no basketball IQ.

As soon as someone tells me I am a "hater" because I disagree with their point of view, I know they have a closed mind.

Are the shots for Miami wide open or are they just simply on fire?

A little bit of both
We definitely arent playing stellar defense, but the Heat really are hitting everything they throw up.

dumb
wow, with 25 sec left in the half we finally put sheldon in, a 4 who can actually play D and protect the rim.  Moore looks horrible tonight, per usual i suppose.

by joeytothelimit on Mar 2, 2008 7:07 PM PST reply actions

2nd Half
I fully expect this to be an exciting game down the stretch. I think the Kings will make a solid run in the 2nd half.

This reminds me of the Seattle game early in the ear. I expect Reggie Theus to blow up in the 2nd half, question their manhood and make the first spurt and get back in this game.

Also, the Kings have never just laid down and died and they ain't gonna just sit tight and let their dignity get burned by the HEAT. They came back against Boston, I expect the same thing to happen again.

BOOK IT!

Cheer up, guys. The Kings will make a run. I'm not guaranteeing they'll get over the hump but this is about their dignity right now.

Expect the Kings to charge back

Hey, wait a minute
I remember you admitting you only say "BOOK IT" when you want the Kings to lose in an effort to move up in the draft order.  Which is it tonight?

Well...
It is the Miami HEAT...

You shouldn't get blown out at home against Miami. Whether I want the lottery or not.

Tie ball game
Kings on a 35-12 run. Good Call!

by Kfan in Korea on Mar 2, 2008 7:56 PM PST up reply actions

It seemed to me that having Artest lead the
team in shots attempted was not a good thing. So, I went back thru the schedule and here are the W/L breakdowns. Note: where 2 players tied for team lead in shots attempted, I gave the W or L to both players.

Artest: 10-11
Martin: 12-6
Salmons: 6-6
Beno: 1-3
Miller: 1-2
Garcia: 0-2
Bibby: 0-2

Just something to think about.

Artest is now 11-11
I guess I should sum it up. I no longer think it's a terrible thing for Artest to put up the most shots. I think we should be trying to get Kmart the most shots, but it's not the end of the world if Artest gets the most. Just don't let anyone else lead the team.

by Kfan in Korea on Mar 2, 2008 8:32 PM PST up reply actions

Another factor
Remember that Kmart is very proficient at getting fouled in the act of shooting, and those shots don't count as field goal attempts. Kevin is averaging a little more than three free throw attempts per game than Artest.

by coolcatreportdotcom on Mar 3, 2008 10:18 PM PST up reply actions

Of course
But I didn't feel like putting in the time to also add up FT attempts divided by 2 for all of the players to get an offensive "touches" number.

All that really says to me is that in those 18 games where he had the most shots, he probably had a lot more "touches" than the next player. And looking at the W/L in those games, I'd say that's something we should be looking to do more often.

by Kfan in Korea on Mar 4, 2008 3:29 AM PST up reply actions

One More Thing
Both Kmart and Artest have missed 17 games this season. They have both only played 42 games, so Kevin is the leading shot-taker in about 43% of the games he has played. Artest a little more than half.

I believe they missed 10 games together.

It would be interesting to see how many of those Artest-shot-leading games came with Kevin not playing and vice versa.

And it might be interesting to see what the numbers were like in the 32 games they have both played in. Out of 59 this year. Geez, no wonder they have struggled.

by coolcatreportdotcom on Mar 4, 2008 7:56 AM PST up reply actions

Yes
There could be a lot of factors that could affect those W/L numbers. I was just looking at one thing. Obviously it's not a perfect study, and it may be completely meaningless. But it may have meaning. Thus "something to think about".

More info from memory(and my piece of scrap paper):

Salmons' shot-leading games came when he was starting, so one or both were out. 2 or 3 came in the first 7 games, where Artest was suspended(he started 0-3). So, without Kevin or both he was 6-3

At one point Martin was 1-2(Artest suspension for sure). So, he's gone 9-3 since then(most of those would be with Artest, but at least one was when Kmart came back from injury before Ron and Mike).

At one point Ron was 5-5(last game a win tied with Kmart, pretty sure)So, I'm pretty sure that stretch was with both. Then he went 3-0 to 8-5(without Kevin? maybe). He's 3-6 since then. He had a tie/loss I think was with Bibby that put him at 8-7(with Kevin). So probably around 3-4/3-5 with Kevin after the injuries.

Again, this is from memory and my scrap paper(that has a running total of W/L and a note of ties). So, I'm sure it's not perfect, but close.

Not sure about the stats
But the Kings have played well when they have all of their players and they've played poorly when some of the pieces are missing. My current diary discusses this in more detail.

Don't look now, Pookey,
but I think you lit a fire under Ron Ron. After checking out the blogs and having his feelings hurt, I guess he's out to prove you wrong... 29 of 55 from the field his last three games (!), and with 6 minutes left tonight looks like he might drop 30 on the Heat. Only took 9 shots from 3 pt range in that stretch, and he nailed 4 of 'em.

Holy fucking shit!

I always watch games where the Kings are getting whooped and hope that I'll see some amazing comeback. And it finally happened tonight. Granted, it  was against the Heat, but still. Wow.

I noticed you didn't say the kings would "Play well consistantly." So I have to give you that one. Of course, considering the Miami and Atlanta games it was possible they wouldn't play well even in spurts.

Well I work during game time
and that's just in general. The exception is Wednesday's (and the rare thursday game). Now onto the nasty stuff. I agree with you that alot of people are turned off by this team. What's their to really root for anymore? Artest isn't raising his value anymore than he did the 3 months prior to the trade deadline. I can't believe Petrie actually SAID fans wouldn't want him to rush into making that decision. My question is: You think a year is rushing you into making a decision?

Still watching,
still reading, still following all things Kings.

But when they play badly and lose to horrible teams, it's more depressing than angering at this point. .

I don't want to prolong the agony by reliving it.
