Fear the Angry Zanesville Times Recorder Columnist

A sports columnist from the paper in Kevin Martin's tiny hometown has a bone to pick with Geoff Petrie:

GRIPES to the Sacramento Kings, who seem to be in perpetual state of rebuilding - not competitive in the high-powered NBA West. They're lucky they still have fan favorite Kevin Martin - for now.

Not Competitve Enough
Competitive enough to make the playoffs or championships, NO.

Unless you're good enough to compete for a championship, you're not competitive enough. This is the goal, to compete for a championship. I don't care that they've beaten New Orleans, Detroit, San Antonio, Dallas, Utah, Houston, Orlando or the Lakers. What about losing to Minnesota, Seattle, Atlanta, Miami, Memphis (w/o Gasol) and the Clippers ? Where was our competitive spirit there?

I think this team is stuck in no man's land. They don't have exceptional young talent except for K-Mart and the jury is still out on Spencer. Garcia nor Salmons don't scream All-Star potential. Quincy except for rare bright spots has been disappointing. And the team is stuck with Kenny Thomas, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Mikki Moore for the duration of their contracts.

Not enough rebuilding
There's not been enough rebuilding as far as I'm concerned.  It's going to take 3-5 years for this team to be good once the ACTUAL rebuild starts, which doesn't look to be for another year or two.

Just to clarify
Just to clarify, by "good" I mean having the potential to compete for a championship.  Portland will be good next year, but it'll be another two years or so after that when they can realistically compete for a championship.  They're the model as far as I'm concerned.

Portland
might be my new favorite team. They really are the model as far as I'm concerned. They drafted a a rookie of the year who has become their leader, a stud PF, and the next great Center. Plus, they've managed to stockpile a crapload of first round picks as well. Oh, and don't forget, they have had no problems with buying out a few crappy contracts. They aren't a model for rebuilding, they've set the standard, in my opinion. If we can be as lucky as them we'll all be very very happy.

ummm, what?
Perpetural state of rebuilding? We were a playoff team a couple of years ago weren't we?

If we're in an endless rebuilding phase I'd love to hear what this guy thinks of the Knicks, Hawks, Bucks, Clippers, Grizzlies, Sonics...etc

Eight straight playoff appearances
followed by two straight misses. Yep, that sounds like a perpetual state of rebuilding to me.

On a related note, the Packers seem to be on a perptual merry-go-round at quarterback since Brett Favre retired.

And lucky to have Kevin Martin, "for now?" Kid's locked up for five years after this one is over.

Kudos to TZ for actually sourcing the Zanesville Times Recorder (& Bait Shop).

K-Mart
Kevin's a loyal person. I think he'll with the Kings through the tough times. Now let's get Kevin a sidekick and get back to championship form.

Whats the ruckus?
Perpetual is too strong a word, but I have read similar comments many times on this board.  Petrie needs to blow it up.....Petrie can't continue to rebuild through the MLE ... etc.
