Rafter Riff, #10

Still waiting for a few precincts to report, but the 12/1 ratio tells me that StR declares Chris Webber's jersey suitable for the ARCO Arena rafters.

Next up, Mike Bibby (and I'm going to throw Peja on right after this).

Well it seems I'll launch this debate
I've had my argument against Bibby for a long time. I don't think the guy did much of anything that was All-Star worthy, let alone Rafter worthy. Vlade Divac was an All-Star caliber C in the prime of Shaq's career. What is, say, Zydrunas Ilgasaukas' excuse?

Mike Bibby had a great first season with the Kings. It translated into over-payment, even then, on a mega bucks contract. Had Mike had the kind of career he had in his first season during his whole career here, and some of that changed on Mike so that's not entirely his fault, but, then the conversation would be different. The truth is that no matter what happened with Webber in the 04-05 season the Kings knew they had to move on without him. Mike needed Webber's confidence, and arrogance to take bad shots, elminating some of Mike's faulty ways in that area, plus the extra boost of confidence to play a certain type of way regardless of what opponents threw at him.

The biggest difference between Steve Nash and Mike Bibby is essentially this: Nash was a tough customer who brought his A game all the time. Mike became a legend in his own mind and never recovered. Mike Bibby had "more" raw talent than Steve Nash does. So, by any reasonable standard, why is Nash headed to the Hall? (This is ignoring the 2 MVP's.)

Last but not least I don't like to kick Bibby's while he's down. I hope he recovers from his thumb.

I agree
Bibby was good in that series against the Lakers. The following year, people were predicting that we would become an All-Star. Sadly, that didn't happen. This was also the case the year after that...and the year after that. I guess the problem with Mike is he's a shooting PG and not a pass first or scoring PG.

Bibby's Jersey Retired?
Give me a break.

Don't make me change my sigline again!

I voted no
For a sub-All Star player to get his jersey retired, he has really got to have some extraneous things going for him. The longevity and Lakers series aren't enough for me.

I like him, though.

Not in a million years.
On-court play and off-court behavior are deciding factors for me. To Bibby, defense was right in front of house. Whining didn't endear him to me either. Lastly...Team Dime. Nuff said.
