GAME 81 vs San Antonio, Game Thread
Incidentally, as the last home game of the year, the time to get free Kings swag is now. Tickets are available (an understatement); if you desparately need a Brad Miller poster or Kings miniball, tonight's your night.
If Manu Ginobili doesn't play, this should be a fascinating battle. If he and Kevin Martin both play, also potentially fascinating.
Go Kings.

K-Mart better play 2morrow
BEAT LA!!! BEAT LA!!!
but Beat SAN ANTONIO FIRST!
screw the poster
Tonight
You hate the Lakers a tad more
Kobe
I think he gets it if the Lakers are top seed in the West.
I think Chris Paul might get it if Hornets are No. 1 in the West.
If neither the Lakers or Hornets get it, it might be Kevin Garnett's year. Or that guy in Cleveland.

Not that guy in Cleveland...
By that matter, might has well give it to Timmy Duncan. I think he's as deserving as Garnett as to what he means to his team;IMO.
Don't mean to be disagreeable
Lakers wouldn't be where they are without Gasol
Totally agree

The Shaw of I Slam
Totally not trying to pick on you, I've just been thinking for the last couple of months how far fans have changed in their opinion of Shawes this year. I'll admit to being one of them.
He's shown more than expected (admitting that I cringed when he claimed he needed more playing time.)
He's played so well as a 19 year old rookie, now I can't even begin to fathom his upside.
Was he underated in the draft? Or am I just scratching for positives this year?
Ummm KK
As far as being underrated perhaps he was. And you use that as a scratching positive mark, and there are far worse things. Like wondering how good Anthony Johnson could be.
Anthony Johnson?
:cringe:
I probably did. What can I say except that I am a hopeless optimist when it comes to the Kings and I try to scratch out any hopeful thing I can find, but Anthony Johnson (no offense intended)? AJ might be a good backup next year.
Let's hope I saw fewer Unicorns and Rainbows while watching Shawes play.

I hate those commercials, but I hate fans mocking their team's players looks more. But that's just me.
Is this you admitting
Me?
Even though, as a female, I suspect most guys think I see them as potential dating partners, I look at NBA athletes as ... athletes.
Outside of the desired dating pool, awesome athletes. I really am in awe of their physical prowess. I love them for their physical gifts, not their looks. And it pisses me off when others glibly mock their looks.

How odd....
No worries though, I only intended to poke gentle fun since Kevin didn't play tonight.
I honestly thought you were referring to one of his look alike wing players. Without HD, Martin/QD/Flaco do tend to look a lot like each other unless you can see their numbers.
Comcast *sucks* on away game coverage. Without HD, I'd imagine home games don't look any better.
In Honor of the Last Home Game:
Anywhere Sheldon Williams' forehead is.
Did you know Sheldon Williams can cook an entire 12 lb honey baked ham in his forehead during the course of one basketball game?
At night Shelden Williams' forehead becomes a shelter for homeless people.
Shelden WIlliams can survive for up to 7 days in the desert with the water he stores in his forehead.
Does anyone know where Jimmy Hoffa is buried? Shelden Williams' forehead.
The answer to climate change is in Shelden Williams' forehead.
Shelden Williams is actually two people: Shelden Williams, and his forehead.
Shelden Williams' forehead is the 6th man of the year.
Shelden Wiliams' forehead is number 22 and 1/2.
Shelden Williams didn't commit the foul, his forehead did. Foul on number 22 and 1/2.
This is out of love. We love you Shelden.

You have to admit that Kenny Thomas
I hope the team finds a way to trade him to a team that can use him. It's not his fault he's overpaid for his skills...in another situation, he might be appropriately priced for his skills.
I really don't think he's an overpaid bum, I just think he's in a bad situation and he's dealing with it well. Is he overpaid? On this team, yes. Is he a bum? No way.
I think he's a better player than the role he's been given. Somewhere else he does have some value.
End rant. I don't love the guy, but I think he's handling a bad situation pretty well, and he didn't make it in the first place.
I think another team could use him.
OK...seriously ending rant now.
Pile on.

Re: You have to admit that Kenny Thomas
But, man. Something changed with K9, and whether he turned out to be just s scape-goat for the coaching staff in regards to the lackluster season that preceded this one, or whether he truly was a rotten apple, I have to admit, I did not see this many DNP-CDs coming. I really didn't. Not by a long shot. Even when things looked their darkest, and the Kings were the last team without a road win, Reggie never was desperate enough to call out to K9.
I cannot even remember the last time I saw him play basketball. And truth be told, that is a good thing. Because I do remember the first game of the season in New Orleans, and I do remember some missed layups that had me shouting "How the hell does this guy get paid to play the game of basketball?!"
It was encouraging to read a few months back that he was training with Webber's coaches, and I wish him the best of luck over the summer. Reggie seems to have lit a spark under a lot of players on the team, and maybe riding pine all season long will be what it takes to force K9 to adapt to a small, effective role next season.
Here's hoping.

I respect your opinion
I liked his play, as well, when he came over from Philly. I still think he's the same guy. He's just not a good fit on this team.
The Kings, since coming to Sacramento, have been known for being the team (via trades) that almost always finds a way to fit in that "quirky" guy that other teams couldn't make work (Artest, Webber, Divac, Richmond, Pollard, Christie, Clark, et al).
As a small market team, the Kings have always looked for that guy (via trade) with talent who had "quirks" the rest of the league had trouble dealing with which made them much cheaper or easily traded for.
Some of them have worked out supremely well, some have worked out pretty well, and some of them have been spectacular disasters.
I'd place K9 somewhere around 50% between pretty well and specactular disaster.
He did a good job in the first year, a decent job last year (with flashes of better than good), and this year being non-productive because he's not playing.
Shit, this team gave up on King Tut and he's a significant bench player for Phoenix.
All I'm trying to say is that I think Kenny is NBA worthy. He's not a good fit on this team which is why he's not playing. But I still think there is room in the league for him to catch on with another team if the Kings can't find him some playing time next season.

Yeah...actually I don't think either one of them are a good fit for this team, but I still think both are NBA caliber players.*

K9 Wanted to Play Tonight
Just wrong,
Again, just my opinion.
what I love about this season
I don't want to see Kenny
The Kings are not the right team for him, but there's room for him in the league. Jeebus Gawb awmighty! He's a much better player than Paul Shirley and 30,000 other players who have been paid to play in the NBA. Boom though, anyone?
I guess I'm just tired of everyone crapping on him.
Not a good fit on this team, not an attractive contract (did his previous GM have a loaded pistol held to his head while he agreed that KT had earned that contract?) for trading purposes. Has anyone in the history of the world ever turned down more money to do the same job? Was there a loaded pistol held to Geoff Petrie's head when he agreed to take on Thomas's contract?
Was there a loaded pistol held to Petrie's head when he traded Stojakovich for Artest? I'm guessing no since there were no police reports posted on the Bee.
I suspect they were both just bad gambles on the part of Kings management that didn't work out.
Que sera, que sera.
I'm still voting you in to the StR HOF third...or sixth behind the SB family.

My question is
Must...not...kill...Theus...
by LeaguePassAddict on Apr 15, 2008 9:38 AM PDT reply actions
Theus
Now to Reggie: This was one of the few games this year that I felt Reggie coached poorly - well coaching poorly in the 4th quarter anyway. There was no excuse for not having Hawes in the game the last half of the 4th. Nor was there any excuse for sitting Beno so long in the 4th when it was obvious (a) Douby can't dribble or play the point and (2) Douby can't guard Parker (or most PGs).
The last 3 or 4 minutes the Spurs simply clogged the lane and dared us to shoot jumpers. (Of course, we decided to go 1 on 5 most of the time, but, hey, Salmons got away with it most of the night, so it is tough to get down on him.) Sheldon might as well not even have been on the floor because the Spurs were playing 4 on 5, totally ignoring him because they knew he was no threat to score. Hawes would have stretched the defense because of his shooting and/or we could have run the high post offense through him to bring out there big men and allow cutters.
Poor coaching by Theus: He didn't see the match ups or understand the best chance we had of scoring and winning.
Totally agree
Finally, my 10-year-old son came in the room and asked if I was ok. I pointed to the screen, and he says, "Oh. Never mind."
I know it's a dangerous sport to be a Monday morning quarterback, or even a Tuesday morning coach, but by a show of hands, how many of you believe we would have won the game if Beno had come back in earlier and Hawes had been on the floor at the end of the game?

And to make matter worse, Theus decides that giving Sheldon the ball on the block to win the game was the best play. Bad 4th quarter for Theus.
