James Johnson glad to be traded to Kings

The small forward admits he lost motivation as a rookie, but is glad to be called on in the Kings' youth movement.

Andrew Weber-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee talked to James Johnson about the small forward's fresh start with the Kings. As you'd expect, Johnson was glad to be traded to a team where he may become a starter.

"Whenever you feel like you're wanted somewhere, it always makes you feel better," Johnson said. "It made me feel like when they picked me up, it wasn't just to have another guy on the team or another body. They picked me up to help us win more games. I'm just happy, more confident and ready."

It'll be really interesting to see whether Keith Smart begins preseason penciling in Johnson with the first team or including Travis Outlaw instead. I think it's safe to say that Smart will use John Salmons there only if needed, not as a choice. Johnson seems like the better fit due to his defensive credentials and Outlaw's ability to play power forward off the bench in stretches. But we'll see how Smart approaches the situation.
