Kings Final Score: Blazers 103, Kings 86

The Portland Trail Blazers use a 28-4 3rd/4th quarter run to blow out the Kings in Sacramento.

The Portland Trail Blazers came into Sleep Train Arena and walked away with a 103-86 victory over the Sacramento Kings in front of an announced crowd of 10,153. Damian Lillard led a balanced Blazers attack with 22 points and 9 assists. James Johnson was the leading scorer for the Kings with 16 points, while Jason Thompson grabbed 11 rebounds. Jimmer Fredette scored 13 points and added 6 assists in 25 minutes. DeMarcus Cousins served the 2nd game of his two-game suspension, while Isaiah Thomas missed the game due to the death of his grandmother (deepest condolences to Isaiah and his family).

The Kings got off to a very sluggish start, falling behind 25-10 with about three minutes left in the first quarter. The Kings closed the half by outscoring the Blazers 32-21, aided primarily by the hot bench scoring of Fredette (5-8 for 10 points) and Thomas Robinson (4-5 for 8 points). Fredette also added 4 assists (versus 2 turnovers) during this span, and added an enthusiastic defensive effort. Overall, Fredette's 14 first half minutes may have been his most complete run as a pro. Lillard got off to a very hot start for the Blazers, primarily while Aaron Brooks was in the game. Brooks left the game with an ankle injury in the 1st quarter and never returned.

The Kings went stone cold to begin the 2nd half, and the Blazers outscored them 28-4 over the last seven and half minutes of the 3rd quarter and first minute and a half of the 4th quarter. Lillard and Nicolas Batum led the charge for Portland, while the Kings added to their dreadful perimeter shooting (0-9 from beyond the arc through three quarters, compared to 10-21 for the Blazers). The Blazers finished 14-27 from three, while the Kings shot 1-11.
