Geoff Petrie Has Been Pretty Good in the Draft

New, comments

For all his faults, one thing most people can seem to agree on is that Sacramento Kings President of Basketball Operations is pretty good in the draft. Now there's a metric that might back that up.

Jeff Goodman of came up with an NBA Draft Rating System to evaluate current GMs of the league. In Goodman's system, Petrie ranks second overall with an average rating of 2.58. Only Oklahoma City GM Sam Presti has a higher rating at 2.79. David Kahn brings up the rear with a rating of 0.5.

A couple of years ago, I delved into Petrie's complete draft history myself, and found it rather impressive. He has found late round gems like Kevin Martin and Gerald Wallace as well as unknowns like Peja Stojakovic, Hedo Turkoglu, and Jason Thompson. Last year the Kings had 3 picks and picked one of the best rookies in the entire league with the last pick in the draft.

So what do you guys think? Do you think Geoff still has it? What's your favorite (or least favorite) Petrie pick of all time? Which pick surprised you the most?
