Final Score: Pistons Survive Kings Comeback, win 103 to 97

The Kings comeback in the fourth quarter comes up short due to some poor decisions and a big Austin Daye three pointer down the stretch. DeMarcus Cousins had another good game in the loss.

The Kings road woes continue on in 2013. While a late comeback bid looked like it might be successful, the Pistons were able to survive thanks to some timely shots on their side and a little help from the Kings.

DeMarcus Cousins was the man tonight for Sacramento, having his way down low against Detroit's big men. For a large majority of the night, Cousins was carrying the team and not getting much help. He finished with 21 points, 14 rebounds (8 on the offensive glass), 2 assists and 3 steals. Jason Thompson was the next highest scorer for the Kings with 16 points.

For Detroit, Greg Monroe (18 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists) and Brandon Knight (20 points, 4 assists) were the biggest single contributors, but the real star for Detroit was their bench. Will Bynum scored 15 points in just under 21 minutes, and Austin Daye added 13, including the dagger three pointer at the end. Rookie Andre Drummond was very productive in limited minutes with 7 points, 11 rebounds and 3 big blocks.

The other bench player for Detroit, Charlie Villanueva, lit up the Kings in the 2nd quarter but was ejected right before the end of the half for a big, unnecessary elbow to Isaiah Thomas that knocked him to the floor. Isaiah was furious and I'm pretty surprised he didn't receive a technical for his reaction.

The Kings fell behind in the second quarter as the bench really struggled with Detroit, and from then on the Kings pretty much kept it in the 10-12 point range but could not get enough stops or shots to go on a significant run until the fourth quarter. Big shots from Aaron Brooks, Travis Outlaw and Jimmer Fredette ended up getting Sacramento within 1 point, but they could not get over it through a combination of turnovers, poor shots, and bad fouls.

The Kings now travel to Cleveland tomorrow to try to get back on the right foot. Full Recap will be up later tonight.
