This may be a hint as to whether the Kings will pick up the 2014-15 option on Jimmer Fredette's contract on Thursday: he didn't play in Wednesday's opener. Marcus Thornton got the starting nod at shooting guard, and Ben McLemore came off of the bench. Neither had a good shooting night, but instead of trying out Fredette coach Michael Malone opted to ride them and play a little two-PG ball with Greivis Vasquez and Isaiah Thomas.
Similarly, despite power forward foul trouble all night, which required Travis Outlaw to play some four, Malone left Luc Richard Mbah a Moute on the bench.
While you can see a healthy Mbah a Moute eclipsing Outlaw, starter Johnny Salmons or both in the rotation, it's hard to see Jimmer get a chance to unseat Thornton unless the vet has a prolonged slump. And I don't think anyone sees McLemore getting pushed aside.
We may have gotten our final answer on Jimmer on Wednesday.
