The Sacramento Kings today announced that rookie Ray McCallum has been assigned to the Reno Bighorns. McCallum was taken by the Kings with the 36th pick in the draft and has yet to see action this season, given that Greivis Vasquez, Isaiah Thomas and Jimmer Fredette are all ahead of him in the rotation.
The Kings do see a lot of promise in McCallum, particularly on the defensive end where he possesses good size, quickness and length. McCallum played limited minutes for Sacramento in the preseason and averaged 3.8 points, 1.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.2 steals in 12.2 minutes a game.
Per the Kings press release, the Bighorns will begin their season tomorrow with back-to-back games at Sioux Falls. This is the first season that the Kings are managing the Bighorns directly, after coming to a deal to run the team this summer.
Also on the Bighorns are Sacramento Kings training camp cuts Trent Lockett, DeQuan Jones, and Brandon Heath.
