Good morning! All throughout the Monta Ellis saga, one voice has been pretty adamant that the guard wouldn't be coming to the Sacramento Kings: beat writer Jason Jones of The Bee. National reporters have regularly included the Kings as one of the teams in play for Ellis, along with the Mavericks and Hawks. But Jones has consistently reported that nothing was close to happening on that front.
He continued that reporting on Wednesday night.
Re: Monta Ellis. Yes both sides talked, but never escalated to point where Ellis was close to coming to Sacramento.— Jason Jones (@mr_jasonjones) July 11, 2013
There's nothing to "move on" from Ellis since the Kings were never close to a deal. Folks talk during free agency, it's normal.— Jason Jones (@mr_jasonjones) July 11, 2013
D'Alessandro, Malone, Ranadive all know Monta well, so of course they talked.— Jason Jones (@mr_jasonjones) July 11, 2013
If Monta could come at a discount, of course you look at it. But it's not like Monta is close to happening. Kings had other priorities: SF— Jason Jones (@mr_jasonjones) July 11, 2013
So there we have it: the local guy says it's not close to happening. Those of us unconvinced Monta is the right move can take solace in that.
