LaMarcus Aldrige's injury helps DeMarcus Cousins' All-Star odds

New, comments

Injuries are always unfortunate, but there's a silver lining for Kings fans hoping to see DeMarcus at All Star weekend.

LaMarcus Aldridge is out 6-8 weeks with a torn ligament in his hand. The injury came in Monday's win against the Sacramento Kings. It's always unfortunate when a great player gets hurt. I would never celebrate an injury to a player, but the injury does have positive ramifications for the Kings.

Kobe Bryant was diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff on Thursday, which presumably opened his roster spot in the All-Star game. That in itself was a boost to Boogie's odds, but Aldridge's injury should seal the deal. Cousins may have made it anyway, and should have made it anyway, but the annual problem is too few spots for too many good players. This is especially true in the West, where other deserving players will likely still be left off the roster.

The bench selections for the All Star game will be announced next Thursday. While we're not celebrating the injury, this news should secure Boogie's selection.
