ESPN’s Chad Ford released version 8.0 of his mock draft series this morning, and despite failing to mention any connection between Mario Hezonja and the Sacramento Kings in his updated big board yesterday, he now has the Kings selecting Hezonja at #6.
DraftExpress has had Hezonja going to the Sacramento Kings for a few weeks now, but in todays update to their mock draft, Hezonja went 4th to the Knicks, forcing the Kings to select Kristaps Porzingis.
Early this morning, Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Kings are indeed targeting Mario Hezonja if they don’t trade out of the sixth spot.

Wojnarowski also reported on the Kings attempting to move back in the top-10, which mostly lines up with what Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix reported earlier in the week.
If the Kings like Hezonja as much as some of the more locked in NBA reporters suggest, than it’s hard to see the Kings moving out of #6 if the player they want is on the board.
If Hezonja is going 4th to the Knicks like DraftExpress is predicting, trading down to grab the sliding Willie Cauley-Stein seems like the obvious connection. If they can get the player they want while grabbing an extra asset or two, why not?
Cameron Payne is probably another trade down target. The Kings had a lot of interest in Payne earlier in the pre-draft process, but things have been quiet on that front for a few weeks.
Chad Ford is reporting quite literally as I write this that the Kings, and more specifically Vlade Divac, really like Frank Kaminsky. Ford also mentioned the Kings as a team that is considering moving their pick, but Frank the Tank was in for a workout with the Kings last week, and we’ve been hearing some rumblings that he was pretty impressive. I’d consider him another trade down target.
