Shams Charania, Real GM -
The Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat have discussed deals with the Sacramento Kings involving forward Eric Moreland, league sources told RealGM.
The talks are expected to be centered on larger trade scenarios and bigger names, but Moreland — a 6-foot-10 shot blocker — intrigues the Nuggets and Heat, sources said.
"The talks are expected to be centered on larger trade scenarios" is the most important line above. The Nuggets hold the 7th pick in in the 2015 NBA Draft, and we’ve been hearing about a potential trade between these two teams since George Karl was hired. Of course, Michael Malone and Pete D’Alessandro know Eric Moreland better than anyone, Vlade Divac and George Karl included, so it’s not a surprise that Denver has inquired.
The Miami Heat’s potential interest is news, but the Heat have the 10th pick in the draft tonight, and various outlets have already reported that the Kings could be looking to trade down within the top-10.
Eric Moreland’s outstanding play in Vegas last summer was rewarded with a 3-year contract, only the first of which was guaranteed. Unfortunately, Moreland had been dealing with a lingering shoulder issue that required surgery, and cost Eric most of his rookie season.
Moreland is still an intriguing prospect, but I am somewhat surprised he still carries any real value around the league considering his injury history and general lack of experience at the NBA level.
With this rumor, I have to agree with Shams. Something else is afoot.
