The first day of NBA free agency has had a few monster extensions, a few surprises, and a few players taking hometown discounts. Danny Green, considered a target for the Kings, agreed to a 4 year deal worth $45 million per year. DeMarre Carroll agreed to a deal with the Raptors for 4 years and $60 million. What this tells us is that Rudy Gay just become an enormous value.
Rudy Gay looks even more like a bargain for his deal in Sac, considering what this year and even last year's free agents are getting.

Would you rather have Rudy Gay at $12 or $13 million per year, or DeMarre Carroll for $15 million per year? Even Danny Green, who I think will be considered a bargain at an average of $11.25 per year, is a three-and-D specialist. He's hugely important to what the Spurs do, but he's objectively not as good as Rudy Gay, and Gay costs just over a million more per year.
