Reno Bighorns holding open tryouts

Think you've got what it takes? Here's your chance to prove it.

The Reno Bighorns will be holding open tryouts on August 30th and September 5th in Reno and Sacramento, respectively. The Bighorns, the NBA Development League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, will use the workouts to identify players who will be invited to Bighorns training camp.

From the Bighorns' official release:

"Even with a small group at last year's tryouts, eight players from our camps earned spots on D-League rosters," said Bighorns head coach Dave Arseneault, Jr. "After leading the league last season in NBA call-ups and a full season of experience under my belt, I'm confident our tryouts are going to produce great opportunities to be seen by our Kings/Bighorns staff and ultimately move players one step closer to the NBA."

This is a great opportunity for anyone who thinks they may have what it takes to play at the next level. And hey, even if it doesn't necessarily lead to a career in the NBA, this is still an entry to playing professional basketball. I'd definitely do it if I was in the area, several years younger, in better shape, and better at basketball.

The full details can be found in the release linked above, but here are a few key details:

  • You'll need to fill out a registration form and a waiver
  • Preregistration costs $150
  • Registration costs $200 if you wait until the day of the event
  • You are required to bring your own basketball shoes (yep, they are not provided for you, don't make this common rookie mistake)

If anyone from the StR community participates, let us know! Even better, write a fan post about the experience.

Good luck to everyone who tries out!
