Sacramento Kings stand firm at the trade deadline

New, comments

Despite rumors, no deals materialized.

The NBA trade deadline has come and gone, and the Sacramento Kings remain unchanged. Despite a flurry of rumors over the past several weeks, no trades materialized for the Kings, and the team will finish out the year with the same roster it began the year with. I'm struggling to think of the last time the Kings made zero roster changes in a season. It's been a while, for sure.

Several Kings players were in trade rumors right up to the deadline. Kosta Koufos and Ben McLemore were reportedly discussed as part of a package going to the Chicago Bulls for Pau Gasol, in a rumor that had an inexplicably long shelf life. McLemore was also reportedly discussed in rumors with the Dallas Mavericks.

In the end, this is probably for the best. The team needs clarity in the power structure before making roster changes. Address the issues amongst the owners, hire a day-to-day GM, let them hire a coach, and only then start addressing the roster.

Considering all else going on in Kings land, sometimes no news is good news.
