Olympics: Basketball-Men's Team-Preliminary Round FRA vs USA Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

The group stage of the 2016 Olympics has finally finished, with DeMarcus Cousins and Team USA going 5-0, but not after facing three consecutive close calls against Australia, Serbia and France. Despite being undefeated, Team USA is looking more vulnerable than ever, and from now on, every game is winner takes all.

Team USA’s path to gold will have them face some of the tougher teams in the tournament as well. They will play tomorrow at 3:45 p.m. Pacific against Manu Ginobili, Andres “Chapu” Nocioni and Argentina, the last team to knock USA out of an international tournament back in 2004.

From there USA will play the winner of Spain and France and should they win that game as well, will then advance to the Gold Medal game against one of Australia/Croatia/Serbia/Lithuania. That Gold Medal game takes place on August 21st.

DeMarcus Cousins has started each of Team USA’s five games so far and has put together averages of 8.6 points (68% from the field), 5.2 rebounds, and 2 assists in 15.2 minutes per game. Cousins is having trouble with staying in the games though, averaging 3.8 fouls a contest, and International Basketball only allows 5 per game.

In other Kings-related Olympics news, Bogdan Bogdanovic has had a pretty good tournament so far, but has missed two huge three pointers for Serbia, one against France that would have won the game and one against USA that would have sent it into Overtime. He’s second on Serbia in scoring averaging 13.4 points (49% from the field, 46% from three), 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists in a team high 26.2 minutes per game. Serbia faces Croatia tomorrow at 6:15 p.m. Pacific.
