The Sacramento Kings have made many players available in trade discussions over the past few months, and Darren Collison certainly isn’t a new name in those discussions. But a new report from HoopsHype suggests that Collison is now among the most likely players to be dealt at the deadline.
From HoopsHype:
The Kings are currently just two games out of the eighth seed in the Western Conference, and they’d love to end their playoff drought this year. If they believe moving Collison can help them secure a postseason spot – or if they believe that re-signing Collison on a favorable contract will be tricky this offseason – they will trade him.
There’s no mention of any specific deals the Kings may be pursuing, but most Kings fans agree that the Kings should try to get some sort of return for Collison, who is an expiring contract this year.
The question is how the Kings would address the point guard position if they unload Darren. It’s tough to imagine other teams giving up proven players on longer contracts in exchange for what Collison would bring to a playoff push.
The trade deadline is Thursday, February 23rd. We’ll continue to bring you updates as rumors develop.
